Adobe user forums update in progress

The Adobe user forums will be unavailable on Sunday and Monday, September 23–24, 2007.

The forums are undergoing major renovation and will be relaunched with a new look and feel. The relaunch is scheduled for Tuesday, September 25. This relaunch is the result of bringing together the two previous forum systems (Adobe and Macromedia) and combining the features of both with an updated user experience. By creating a unified user experience across all user forums, we aim to create a more seamless environment for the discussion of Adobe products. We understand this will be a big change for all users and ask that you take a couple of days to try out the forums to get used to the new design. All current message content going back approximately two years from both previous systems will be available in the new system.

The changes will affect both web and NNTP (newsgroup) users. The forums.macromedia.com and adobeforums.com NNTP servers will be retired for English language content. Starting September 25, NNTP users should connect to the new forum.adobe.com NNTP server. Note that the NNTP server will require you to log in using your Adobe ID credentials. Anonymous NNTP connections will no longer be available. Non-English newsgroups will continue on the forums.macromedia.com and forums.adobe.com NNTP servers with no change.

Users of the Adobe Forums will have their current forum logins changed to use their Adobe IDs instead. Users of the Macromedia Forums may continue using their Adobe ID or Macromedia ID to log in to the forums.

To better serve the needs of our customers, we encourage you to provide feedback on the new forums.

— Adobe Support Team

This is going to be a large upheaval - I suspect there may be some influx of refugees here!

I leave it to the managers of this site as to whether to move this thread elsewhere here if it's deemed more worthy than "OT".

A muted hurrah that the Adobe forums are beginning to function again, muted because it's quite a mess... can't find replies to topics, very inefficient layout, painfully slow response and display, topic lists out of order...

Well, I guess it can only get better.  It needs to.

Slowly but surely the forum is getting up to speed again. Now I have to find out how to login with my previous account.

[Edit] It seems that the forum still remembers me. I guess it uses the same cookies as the old forum. That's positive.

It's almost as though they've rearranged the deckchairs on the Titanic... although that's not quite fair, because it doesn't appear to be sinking... and I can't figure out how to stop all fora saying 'new' at the top - because as far as I'm concerned, nothing is.

Yes - or perhaps it will sink!

I have been waiting for several minutes, but they don't seem to want to let me sign in. I am still on the start page - yawn!

Ah that's better - a blank screen zzzzzzzzzz.....

5 mins later .....this is getting silly!

After waiting another 5 minutes and trying to at least read a few threads (nope!) I have given up. I might try again when I am really over-excited and need to calm down a bit

I wouldn't expect performance to settle down for a day or two.  It's just crashed and has been restarted....

http://forum.adobe.com/.ee6b30e/ should take you to the official comments forum if you have any views to add to those already stating much of the obvious things!   It's actually better now in layout than it was a week ago but still could do with some tweaking.  However, until it crashed just now I was posting pretty fast in various places and the "subscriptions" system should do a good job of presenting you only with the new posts in the forums of interest, once you set it up.  It is possible to mark everything as read at the outset in the "My Forums" "My Subscriptions" tab, once you have subscribed.

I asked it to do one thing, and it appeared to crash again. Maybe it's me it doesn't like!

I can't even get to the start page now - I am stuck at the list of forums (fora?)

The fact that I can only see a third of the previous quantity of thread titles on the screen at once, and that I have to subscribe to "mark all read," does not sit well with me at all.

Of course, it's so slow and clunky that these gripes are rather superfluous.

Tomorrow is another day.

You should be so lucky! I cannot for the life of me get the subscriptions thing to work properly at all. Mark all as read? Where the heck is that?

I mean, this forum might not be perfect, but at present it's a damn sight more usable than any of the Adobe ones, isn't it?

It's now possible to list posts in "views" order there, data not available on the old system.  It seems to be accurate - the FAQ on vocal removal is the most read there!   In the main forum for AA2.0, threads on Vista are amongst the most read, and that concerning Audition 3.0.   There seem to be a mass of threads with 120-150 reads, which gives some kind of overall feel for interest level.

I feel slightly depressed about the reads of the FAQ's.....
