I didn't say that it wasn't perfect - I said that it may not be perfect. But in a relative sense, at the moment, it is...

I cannot for the life of me get the subscriptions thing to work properly at all.

The first reply of Ozpeter in the thread on this subject in the Adobe forum you started does work for me, although it does take some liberal interpretation of the exact wording and tab names. It's a nice feature (once you know how to activate it wink ) But, be quick, be quick, before it's too late. The Adobe forum is up now (10:25 am local time).... evil

[Edit 10:37] Shoot, it's down again.

Remember when Adobe upgraded their forum software around the time they released Audition 1?  They ended up going back and staying there until now.

The new forum software seems to be what the beta forums have be running on for a while now.  I don't like it.

As I sit patiently and wait to see whether a new web page of the new Adobe Audition Forum will eventually grace my screen, my eyes are inexorably drawn to one thread:

"How to get help quickly" and I wonder........naah!

There does seem to be a problem with the "red flags" at present but the subscriptions system is working as it should - provided you can get any response from the forums at all.  But it should be borne in mind that there must be well over a hundred forums and subforums over there, and large numbers of users logging back in and setting up subscriptions etc - the load on the system must be pretty substantial.  The Audition forums are very much a sleepy hollow compared to some of the others, where part of the hosts' duties include splitting long-running discussions every time more than 1,000 posts have been added!

The last time a significant change was made to the Adobe forums - and rolled back - it was a matter of cosmetics.  This time the underlying database has been significantly altered, and the not insubstantial number of forums and users from the Macromedia side of the business has been incorporated - and the new design partly reflects what those people were used to.

Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible - I hope....

I did get this to work in the end - despite being somewhat confused by the fact that the red flags didn't disappear, which is what lead me to think that it had failed - which, technically, it has of course.

Well if only normal service is going to be resumed, one wonders what the point of the 'upgrade' is/was. I was hoping that it would be rather better than that...

(Yeah, cheap shot I know - but I think that they've missed a whole load of tricks and opportunities here that would make those forums a lot easier and more intuitive to use.)

I wouldn't even want to imagine how large their databases are!   undecided

I was once told how large - and somehow it didn't seem that huge - but I think it's all to do with the indexing and stuff - keeping track of tens of thousands of users and what they have and haven't read, etc etc.

There are actually a few new handy options over there - including the ability to create and "ignore" list! - as a host (moderator) I've only spent about five minutes (between freezes) looking at what's available under the hood but it seems like there's a lot there which could be tinkered with, when the system is stable enough for tinkering to be worthwhile.  It must be close to impossible for them to be trying to fix the forum bugs when it's been so crawly at times.

I don't know if anybody else would be interested in this, but I've spent a little time creating a "Clip Library" for the free text-editor NoteTab Light (available at notetab.com). The library has links to the AudioMasters and Adobe forums.  It has simple HTML tags programed into it that would work mainly for the Adobe forums, since we have the edit buttons above here..  You can select pre-written text and make it bold, italic, underlined, highlighted...etc, very quickly without having to type things in by hand.  After creating your message in NoteTab you can click the "Copy Message 2 Post" button and it will copy the entire thing to your clipboard so you can paste it easily.

You can drop the clip library I created in the "Library" folder under "C:\Program Files\Notetab\library\" to install it.

NoteTab is pretty easy to program, so the library can easily to updated/enhanced if more features become available (i.e., more smilies...I haven't found a legend for smilies over there).

I would have posted this over on the Adobe forums BUT the "reply" and "create new topic" features seem to have vanished before my eyes!

Notice on the Adobe front page:-

Forum Migration on hold! We are putting the Macromedia and Adobe Forum consolidation on hold while researching performance issues. The forums will be in read-only mode, not allowing new message posting, while we revert. When the pre-consolidation structure is back in place please go to http://www.adobe.com/support/forums to select forums not listed on this page. Thank you for your understanding.

Wow.

Even THAT doesn't seem to work (yet). I just posted a message at the Adobe forum!

"will be in read-only mode" - future tense but probably soon (I've got no inside track on that though!)

I think I get the meaning of the message now - the Macromedia forums have been taken off the list of merged forums and doubtless restored to their former software.  The former Adobe forums carry on using the changed format (which uses the same underlying software as it has done for some years).

Edit:  or not.  Good grief, I'm as confused as anybody!  Sad
