I don't qualify for "guru" status. I'm about 5 years behind current technology. My friend will recommend a specific motherboard and chip, and memory sticks. He's even helped me build my current computer which has been great for the last five years or so.....so he knows what I have, what I want to do, what I'll be needing for AA3 and future needs as well, so we'll end up building something that last a good while.

Before we build anything though, I want to try out AA3 on my current computer to see if the SSE-2 thing will really be a problem. I would prefer to keep my current computer as it's running very sweet, and has many features to it. I really hate the idea of trashing it. So if I can just upgrade to a newer AMD processor, I may do that. We'll see in November. There's lot's of options, and I'm still in the early planning stages.

God Bless Adobe for putting VST intrument support into Audition at last, had to happen  afro

We're going to need a whole sub-forum for the VSTi and Midi questions alone!

I don't think - I know. But unfortunately, I can't give you details - I can't go beyond what's been made public. What I can say though is that I pretty much agree with everything it says in the release note, and that the improvements are well worth it. I do have a couple of favourites, and as far as I'm concerned, they make the whole thing worth it, just for them alone.

Yes, they are both in the list, but I have to say that there are plenty of other small enhancements that aren't mentioned as well - you've only got the highlights there.

I know you can't say, and I won't press it (because that just makes all parties unhappy), but I really hope a lot of the tweaks we (OK, I really mean I) have asked for here have got a look in, and not just major features like VSTi.  Because I'm still kind of irritated about how those AA2 automation lanes are almost so useful, until you need to slide material around.

But seriously, I'm actually looking forward to this one.

Are AMD Athlox XP 2600+ or AMD Sempron 2400+ processors equipped with SSE-2 (which I've never heard of before)?

No they are not.

In which case I have very good reason to believe that AA3.0 will install and run on systems built around these and similar processors...

Think I am a little out of touch here - only just seen that Audition 3.0 is arriving soon!

Really glad I didn't fork out for 2.0 - would be pretty annoyed if I had.

Just been watching the demo from the Adobe site. The GUI looks quite different. In my opinion more Pro-Tools like.

Good to see the VSTi support - but will it be reliable? I've never had the same reliability from Audition with VSTs as I've had with other more 'musically' based sequencing software.

Look forward to trying a demo soon!

The only other things that have been added to the laptop are a Logitech USB mouse, a Western Digital 500GB external hard drive (only used when recording otherwise it's connected to my desktop at home) and a E-Mu 1616m recording interface (again only used when doing recording).

My desktop should also be OK as it is a Dell Dimension 8300 with a Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading and 1GB RAM and it runs AA2.0 like a charm.

I really don't want to go with Vista, it's not worth it. My dad has a Vista laptop and it's the most frustraing thing to work with.

As I've suggested, i have excellent reason to believe that there are no problems running it with a lowly AMD Athlox XP 2600+ or AMD Sempron 2400+ system running XP - so clearly anything more technically advanced should be a breeze... cool

But upgrade price to the UK is GBP 81.08 including VAT and even more, GBP 83.49, for the downloadable version huh

And considering the current strength of the £, this is, to say the least, something of a rip-off. Because that is more like $150 plus...

They're running the same sort of rip-off in Spain.  They want €99 for the upgrade version - that's $136+ at current exchange rates.  On top of that, I have to pay an additional IVA (VAT) of 17.5% - that's nearly another €16.  I appreciate there's not much that can be done about the tax, but I do object to being asked to pay getting on for 40% more than the basic US price.

Oh yes - and the download version is slightly more expensive, because the IVA is higher (21% instead of 17.5%).  However, that makes no sense at all, since the maximum IVA rate in Spain is 17.5%, so how do they arrive at their 21% figure?

I recall, I had no end of a problem when I upgraded to v1.5 via the Spanish outlet - I would much rather have dealt direct with the USA, but they insisted I deal with the local distribution group and it turned into a real saga.

Their European download server is in Eire, where VAT is 21%.

...Which suits me, 'cos I live in Northern Ireland and we don't pay any export duty to the South ( well actually we reclaim it through VAT) but it is obvious there's a bit of capitalising on the other countries. Somehow it makes me happy I've friends in the U.S of A. Now where's that address book, fumble! fumble! wink

Perhaps it wasn't included in the details list on Adobe's site, but does anyone have any clue if a CueListTool-type feature will be part of ver 3?

There's no point in asking any of these questions at all.

If it's in the press release, it will be acknowledged, but no extra detail will be given. If it's not in the press release, then nothing at all will be said about it, whether it's there or not. That's it, and all about it, I'm afraid - for anything else you will have to wait for the actual release.

So it's an upgrade with new functionality added and not a major overhaul, so I expect the answer to my questions is going to be yes.
