3.0's shipping in two months
3.0's shipping in two months. Piddle. I'd just about made up my mind about 2.0.
http://www.adobe.com/products/audition/
My problem isn't the two months I have to wait; my problem's my ignorance. I don't know hardly anything about 2.0, so how can I judge whether 3.0 is significantly better? Piddle.
Whatcha think?

Re: 3.0's shipping in two months
My hope is that 3.0 will be considered by Adobe, as they seem to have stated, as a completely stand alone product and support it as such, rather than as a small part of a video suite. If this is done and the support, promotion and above all necessary updates are provided, then it's a no-brainer.
What worries me as a rather reluctant Vista user is that Vista compatibility seems to be essential, and as far as I can tell the first Vista service pack, which seems to involve a new kernel, is due about the same time. The amount of effort involved in keeping up with this must be enormous.
For this reason, I really hope that the old Syntrillium concept of not releasing software until it is ready is revived. Just like Microsoft should have done with Vista.

I have to admit that I am relieved that they are sane at Adobe, and are still supporting XP. (Not that I expected them to ditch support XP in favour of Vista, mind you. But one can always worry until the information is explicitly provided.)

Re: 3.0's shipping in two months
Upgrade price of $99 applies to all previous versions of Audition. That's a fairly aggressive marketing move - and one which I predict will upset some people who have paid for the intermediate versions. Well, those are the breaks.
New feature set is pretty huge - do look at the detailed list.

I am hoping that Adobe will provide 24 track control surface support this time around. Who knows, I might be able to salvage the Tascam US2400...

But upgrade price to the UK is GBP 81.08 including VAT and even more, GBP 83.49, for the downloadable version

And considering the current strength of the £, this is, to say the least, something of a rip-off. Because that is more like $150 plus...

I don't think - I know. But unfortunately, I can't give you details - I can't go beyond what's been made public. What I
can
say though is that I pretty much agree with everything it says in the release note, and that the improvements are
well
worth it. I do have a couple of favourites, and as far as I'm concerned, they make the whole thing worth it, just for them alone.
Yes, they are both in the list, but I have to say that there are plenty of other small enhancements that aren't mentioned as well - you've only got the highlights there.
If you want my candid opinion, 3.0 is what 2.0
should
have been...

Same goes for prices in Euro; you pay € 99 for an upgrade, excluding VAT. That's $ 126.--.

The Aussie price works out to about $US111. That's OK.

I will wait for the first user reports to be published before I make my final decision. So, untill then, it's AA2 for me. But considering the source (SteveG), the upgrade indeed looks like a no-brainer.

Well that's not much different, certainly - € 99 = £67.0124, and if you add UK VAT, it comes to £78.73. So this means that so far, the UK is going to be the most expensive place to get your upgrade. But maybe (says he, rather cynically) that's not surprising - Audition's biggest customer is in the UK... and even though they will get a special rate, it will still only be based on the published upgrade price in £, I suspect.

I am in total agreement here. This is one of those upgrades that is almost essential.

Seconded - from a restoration point of view V2 was a waste of time, but this time there's a number of new features that'll rattle the same cages elsewhere that adding FSE in 1.5 apparently did, I reckon!
(Hint: Cedar's Automatic Phase Correction module, as featured in the online video, costs nearly $4000 alone...)

That (plus a question I had that Ozpeter answered about the upgrade price applying to *any* previous version) has decided me. Thanks, Mr Steve.
