Heya guys. Ok, so what I got here...
When I am on multitrack, and trying to strech the track, I press Ctrl, clock shows up and I drag the edge of track to the right. What happens is track is becoming longer, but instead of make the composition longer, it just adds the silence. And when I try to shrink it same way, it simply cuts the track.
My problem similar to this one, xept I got version 3.0 and when I clicked View - Enable Clip Time Stretching it did not helped.
OS is 7, U x64.
Please, help if u got some guesses.

UPD: SOLVED
Ok, bunnies. After ~3 month I solved the problem. It was not about version of the prog, OS. Not about sampling rate, bit depth or format of the file... It was about... the file length.
F8cking Audition doesnt stretch the files if they are longer then a hour. U can't cuz the file at Audition and then stretch it - source of the file must not be longer, then hour. 58 mins max. Well thanks a f8cking lot for that, devs!
Anyway, Il probably go get drunk and get a hooker, so happy I am right now. Another Audition mystery solved!

You don't press CTRL to time stretch, you put the cursor over the bottom corner of the clip where the diagonal lines are and the cursor will change to show a clock (provided you have time stretching enabled).

If your cursor is showing two vertical lines with opposite pointing arrows, you're too high up from the corner, and the edge of the clip will be adjusted instead.

Did you wait a short while?

I ask because I just tried it and, on my first go, it appeared to be simply adding silence.  However after a few moments, a dialogue box popped up saying it was processing the clip and giving me a count down--it took almost a minute to time stretch a 2 minute clip.  My first try, I got impatient and tried to put the length back to normal by dragging again and it also appeared to cut off my clip too--but all was okay when I waited a bit longer.

If not that, I'm out of ideas.

Hey Bob. Did something appears when u made it longer? A new window usually shows when u stretch, to show %, and then u cant press anything in original window bfore the process ends.
In my case, no window is appearing, and I can freely use Audition. When I try to stretch track, instead of strething it, Audition adding silence and it looks red  undecided

Actually I did read that.  But what you describe happening is easy to duplicate if you're just outside of the bottom corner of the clip.

Another thought...make sure your clip isn't "Locked in Time."
