Can anyone provide me with some good VERY GENERAL starting point settings for fairly smooth light to medium single band compression for the following:

Pre-Comp(ms)
Ratio
Threshold(dB)
Knee(dB)
Attack(ms)
Release(ms)

Sorry, but in my book 'classical compression' is an oxymoron.

Even though I think that this might be 'classic' rather than 'classical', I still don't think we can oblige. All audio is different, therefore there can be no common starting point - QED. If you really need to compress signals (and there is sometimes quite legitimate need to), you always do it in reference to what you've got as a source, and what you finally need as a result. And you do this using your ears, not a load of numbers.

Sorry about that . . . "classic" is what I meant.

I really do understand all the variables -- just thought there might be a "good" rough starting point for what I mentioned.

The presets aren't that bad really, also gives you a platform to work off of.
