WWW

Which contains exactly the same information as Adobe have released, and not any form of review at all.

There is no review - and I have to say that one bit of information in that report is factually wrong - but I'm not allowed to tell you which bit! And when I say 'wrong', I mean totally wrong...

"A major upgrade optimized for both Windows XP and Vista with tons of new features, Audition 3 is a powerhouse — a serious audio tool by anyone's standards, especially at its projected street price of $349. Upgrades are also available for existing Audition owners."

That sounds like a pretty good opinion to me, especially coming from MIX Magazine. Considering the vast number of new upgrade software releases this fall, any mention is a good thing.

I don't recall reading about the Tops and Tails thing before.

That sounds more like what the Audition staff would have let him say about it - there's no way that the Mix reporter (not really reviewer) would have got his hands on it for long enough to have been able to come to any sort of impartial conclusion about it based on actually using it. And as I mentioned earlier, one thing he said is factually wrong.

But what's he actually said anyway? It's a major upgrade. Well, duh.... and I don't measure features by the ton, personally. Audition has always been a 'powerhouse' (whatever that means), so anybody saying that it's not a serious audio tool is living on another planet anyway.

Seriously, I don't think that you should take any opinion like this as definitive in any way at all - wait, and make your own mind up.

Quote from the press release:

Top/Tail Views
Zoom into the beginning and end of a file to add fades and gains while keeping the whole file in view.

I must have missed the tops and tails thing.....

Midi recording, VSTi support, and guitar effects, is what's important to me.

As long as it works as advertised, I'll be happy with AA3.

For Mix magazine to call it "a Powerhouse-a serious audio tool by anyone's standards,"  is saying quite a lot.

Actually, it's saying nothing new at all - quite loudly.

That's the whole point - you won't find out how well it works for you until you've tried it. Mix magazine isn't impartial, by any means.

It really doesn't matter much to me anyway, as I've already made up my mind about it and pre-ordered it ten days ago. My experience with Adobe is that their software usually does work as advertised.

Except their forums, eh?

I hate to be rude or critical, but those forums are a mess. Sometimes when I log in there, I get a randomly assortment of posts one time, and most recently posted posts another time. Trying to log on just flat out doesn't work. Then of course as others have reported,  the "new" buttons are always on new. I'm seriously hoping I don't have similar issues with AA3.

(And by implication from your comments in the OT thread, AA2.)

Oh come on with the sarcasm Steve! What the reviewer wrote is perfectly ok, more the merrier.

Whether or not it's a regurgitation of the company line, I'm glad to see Mix giving it publicity.  While I can't speak to Mix's previous coverage of Audition specifically, I do know that some of the major audio magazines have ignored it in the past.  So seeing kind pre-publicity from a major magazine on an unreleased upgrade to our favorite software is really a pretty new and nice deal.  Especially considering that we never have known before when the upgrades would come.

a) most of that (with one exception) was not sarcastic, and b) how the hell would you know?
