Mac's are using Intel components, so I figured...why not ??

Looks good - which mobo did you go for? The reason I ask is that I have the P5B and when I installed an ATI x1950 PCIx16 graphics card, the fan covers the next PCI slot and makes it unusable, so I only have two PCI slots available!

Floppy disk drive?  Why?

I keep my (ancient) floppy because it's the only way to get the driver for the SATA interface into the Win XP or Win 2003 install.  When there's no floppy I make a copy of the install CD with the driver in an added $OEM$ directory - but that's a pain once one's machine is in pieces and you remember....

Now if BIOSs enabled a USB key to be seen as a floppy; but they don't, though some can see them as hard disks, which won't do.

Sony Floppy drive....... because it was the first black one I saw at New Egg, that would match my case, and it was only $ 7.99.  Why a floppy drive ?? I still use it occasionally, even the raid drivers that come with the board are stored on floppy disks. And yes my midi sessions and files will be really small, I could store them on floppy disks if I wanted to.


Which part is the Mac part ??  The Intel Core 2 Duo processor is what MAC's are using now days....I checked 'em out at New Egg, and couldn't believe it,  also similar video card. I haven't made a definite decision on which video card yet, but am looking at the one's MAC uses.

Speaking of the Sony floppy disk drive, it arrived today UPS, and I checked it out, and it works just fine, so I installed it in the new case.

For those interested, I ordered the Seagate 250 gig SATA hard drive today. It should be in next week. There's a very good chance I'll get the Motherboard next week too.

Update....

I got the Intel motherboard today and installed it and wired it up. I also installed a Sam-Sung Light Scribe  DVD burner and Audiophile 2496 sound card,  I already had. The SATA hard drive should be in tomorrow (Thursday), so now I'm about halfway there.  I still need to get the memory, a video card, Arctic Freezer, and the processor. I think I'm going to go with the Intel 6750 Core 2 Duo. It'll be about two weeks before I can get the remaining components, but in plenty of time for Audition 3.

Update....

If you'll notice at the top right hand side there's a plastic white wire channel I installed to help clean up the wiring. It worked out really nice.

Very tidy!  I've never been one to sweat PC wiring much - while I avoid the rat's nest approach, my boxes aren't nearly as neat inside.

I'm in industrial automation, so I'm very familiar with panel wiring.  The thing with PC wiring is that the cables are all fixed length - it's not like you can cut the wire to the right length at every connection point, and with the PSU in my case (LONG cables), I'd have a ton of cable to hide.

You might make me feel guilty enough to make an attempt at cleaning things up sometime - but not until the kitchen remodeling is done!!

Trust me, I had a ton of extra wire to hide too !! Just a short piece of wire channel did the trick though. I mounted it with two way foam tape. I'm trying to keep everything as neat as possible, because it's a small case and everything is tight.

The most aggravating thing was mounting the board,..the board called for 10 standoff mounting screws and only nine came with the case, so I had to drive all over town trying to locate 1 more standoff screw. I ended up buying a kit full of about a 100 screws for $5.99 to get the the one tiny little proper sized, standoff screw I needed. Luckily I found it and everything is fitting together perfectly now.

I'm glad all the wires are basically plug-ins and not cut to length. If I had to cut every wire to length and install mounting plugs, I'd be here for a week. .....

Update...I installed the Intel E 6750 processor today. I also installed the Artic Freezer Pro 7 cooling fan. I used Artic Silver 5 for heat grease.

I settled on a Chaintech GeForce 8400 GS, 256 ddr2,  64 bit video card, and installed that today too.

All that's left is the 2 gig Kingston memory sticks, which should be here Friday or Monday...then I can fire it up.
