I came across this wee Audio playlist App some of you guys might like at http://www.matti.co.uk/coolplay/ it's designed for the BBC newsreaders but some of you might use it.

Cheers

Hmmm...thanks for that.  I can see some application as a very simple tool for playing sound effects in a theatre situation.  There are commercial apps like SFX that do a lot more... but for some things this could be useful.

It may be that it's all a part of a corporate rethink. Since management has at last realised that the entire BBC now depends totally on computers in order to produce any output at all, it makes some sense that everybody who works on production and presentation, whatever dept. they are in is a 'user' (in one sense of the word, and quite often in the other common one too...)

Just how much even Radio 1 presenters depend on being able to insert a 'personality' card into a desk has been very apparent on-air once or twice...  (in fact, not on air. The system failed completely.) And, it would seem, even humble newsreaders are not exempt from this, or from being renamed, either.

Aim Day Co, thanks a lot.  I actually need a simple player like that very much. I was considering writing something like that - you save me some time!

"VUplayer" also has some handy features though addressing a different set of requirements (not intended for radio but could be used for...) - www.vuplayer.com I think.

"VUplayer"

I'll give it a try, thanks.  Most players, including foobar2000, which I love (as every user of this forum has probably already noticed), play the whole playlist.  What I need for my specific purposes, and what I get from CoolPlay, is that it stops after each file in the playlists. Ideally, I would prefer CoolPlay not to move selection to the consecutive file, but this is a minor inconvenience which I can live with.

VU player can be set to behave in the way you desire, I'm pretty sure.

I just figured out how to do this in foobar, and it does not move the selection. Still, I'll look at VU when I have time.

By the may - have any of you encountered a Win application that would allow me to assign various wavs to keyboard keys and play them back when I press corresponding keys?  Additional helpful options would be: a switch controlling whether playback stops when I release the key or it continues to the end of file, and an ability to choose which soundcard is used.  The complete key-to-file assignement should be saveable so I don't need to reassign each key on each program start.

The BBC remains the most respected computerised broadcaster on the planet?
