All has been working perfectly normally on my PC when opening audio files from a folder to be played in Adobe Audition 1.5 until recently.

cry Now, for some strange reason, every time I double click on an audio file in a folder, or from an e-mail, Adobe Audition launches but it’s empty – the individual file isn’t itself launched.    The only way I can access the file is to go to ‘Open’ within Audition, search for the file and then open it and play it. As you can imagine it is becoming extremely frustrating!   cry

Today someone kindly tried turning off 'Play On External Launch' (?) in their Adobe Audition 2.0 ‘Properties’ and they got the same result – however so far I can’t find a “Play On External Launch” option anywhere in 1.5.

For your further info, in order to try rule out other possibilities:

1. If I right click when going to open an audio file from a folder, choose 'Open With' / 'Choose program', highlight ‘Adobe Audition’ and tick 'Always use selected program to open this kind of file' it makes no difference. Adobe Audition and the file are launched and the audio automatically starts playing.
If I then go back to the file in the folder and double click it - I'm back to square one with an 'empty' Adobe Audition launching without the audio file I’m trying to open!

2. If I chose another media player with 'Always use selected program to open this kind of file' such as Real or Windows Media Player, that programme launches and the audio plays. The issue appears to be only with Audition...

3. If I right click when going to open an audio file from a folder, and choose 'Open With' followed by 'Adobe Audition'. The Audition launches empty once again.

4. As previously indicated, I can open files without any problem from within Audition using 'File'/'Open' etc.
Much head scratching going on here!!!  huh  Any thoughts gratefully received!![/list]

What are your system specs?  Is this on a laptop?

Hi Eric!

No it is a PC built with audio in mind and all been working properly until recently.  It shouldn’t be anything to do with the spec but FYI here it is:

  • Operating System
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)

    Processor
    2.40 gigahertz
    64 kilobyte primary memory cache
    4096 kilobyte secondary memory cache

    Drives
1500 Gb Usable Hard Drive Capacity
1357 Gb Hard Drive Free Space

    Memory
    2048 Megabytes Installed Memory
Have just been comparing notes and settings with a colleague also using 1.5 and we can’t get to the bottom of it.

On his machine if he has Audition 1.5 open and clicks on an external file in a folder, it opens within the existing open copy of Audition and is listed in the open files.

Each time I click on an external file in a folder – a fresh Audition window opens.  All without any audio showing or playing!  Hope that makes sense!!

Just a thought ....

Are your file associations set up properly??

In explorer's main menu select "Tools" then "Folder Options" and "File Types"

Scroll down to "SES" and select "Advanced"

Edit the 'open' action and you should have something like this (for AA3)

"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Audition 3.0\Audition.exe" "%1"

Runaway, thanks for that information.  It actually solved a problem I had on my laptop.  .SES files were associated with Adobe Reader and I couldn't change it through Folder Options.  It turns out that the action for the file was set to "Read" rather than "Open" and it was set to Reader.  A quick action change to Open and an association change to Audition fixed the problem.

"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Audition 3.0\Audition.exe" "%1"

Thanks runaway, have gone through those steps and it looks as though I have -  it's showing as:

 "D:\Program Files\Adobe\Audition 1.5\Audition.exe" "%1"

In the "Actions" box Edit with Audition 1.5 is in bold (set as default) and 'open' and 'Play' are in normal font...

I tried chainging the default to 'open' but it hasn't made any difference...   huh

WWW

Thinking about it there are 2 options - reinstall AA1.5 to reassociate the file types (wav, mp3 etc) or go into folder options etc and change the "WAV" settings to open using AA1.5.

I suspect that another app is hijacking the file associations
