I get this error message when installing 2.0

"error 1722.  There is a problem with this windows installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

Of course I am unable to get ahold of any tech person on the phone!

Any ideas?

Thanks,

-Rob

WWW

Personally, I would keep trying to get a hold of them (if they are open where you live).  I had a problem downloading the adobe download manager again, so I called them and got support in less than 15 minutes.

It looks like they are pretty busy today, the download time says "1 hr 30 minutes"....and I'm using a cable connection.  Must be a LOT of downloads today......

Standard advice would be to actually do what nobody ever does - shut down all other apps, disconnect from net and turn of antivirus, and try again.

Generally though, unless someone else has come across this exact problem, support will be the only people who can (eventually) help on this.  Two things to bear in mind - installation problems get free support, so insist on that; and (2) although Adobe have doubtless been training up their people to deal with the new package, it's been available for less than 24 hours, so they may not be as on the ball as you might hope.  But it would be very interesting to know how you fare in due course, if you could report back.

I can't find this error number on the Tech Support documents.

Update...

Ran uninstall to make sure than any corrupt pieces of 2.0 that I previously tried to install were removed - Rebooted - Ran install again and now everything looks ok.

Hopefully no more bugs pop up!

I just downloaded the upgrade and I am having trouble with the installation. I get the following error message:

"The contents of this file can not be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run is corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again."

I am not sure why this happened. The download went smoothly. I had shut down all programs, defeated virus checking, etc.

I will place a call to Adobe support when they open. Any other suggestions?

Does rather look like something went amiss with the download.  Presumably you are using XP SP2?

Yes, I am using XP2.

Before I purchased the download I read all materila I could find here, and on the Adobe Forum. I then cleaned up my computer, installed SP2, rebooting each step along the way.

All programs, virus checkers, etc. were turned off prior to downloading.

As I mentioned, the download seemed to proceed OK; there were no glitches or error messages during this process. After the download I selected not to install right away. I opted to burn a backup disc first, as recommended.

When I attempted to install (from the HD) it seems to read the contents OK. The error message appears as it leaves that phase and tries to begin installation.

Patiently awaiting sunrise on the We(s)t Coast...

If it fails at that stage, it does sound very much like a corrupted download.

Did you save the file to the desktop?  Try copying it to C:\...

http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_15296
might help - they have a range of possible problems there.

Also look for the error message in this thread and see if anything there seems likely - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/425167.html

Or - "This error can result if you are attempting to install the update file from a mapped or network drive. To resolve this issue, you must copy the executable (.exe) update file to your local drive (C:\ in most cases) to process the update. "

Or - have a look at http://tinyurl.com/95wsy where they seem to come up with a solution similar to that in another thread above.

You might be able to tell that I've getting this stuff from Google - searching for "The contents of this file cannot be unpacked"

Update:

I've made 4 trips to the help desk, so far. We tried a few different tricks each time to insure a smooth download, but we came up empty. For some reason the download is corrupted each time. The Scientific Wild A$$ Guess at this time is that my ISP has cached the download and I am basically getting the same file each time.

CS has agreed that the best course of action is to send me all of the files on disk. I was hoping they would just send me a full box version, but that doesn't seem to be part of the game.

One thing I must say, Adobe CS rocks!! Of the 4 times I had to call today my wait time has never been longer than 3 minutes! I was anticipating muuuuucccchhhh longer. All of the agents have been super friendly, understanding and above all.....they listen. I am impressed, still not entirely happy, but I have faith that it will all work out.

ronmac - I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the downloadable installer.  The error does sound as if there's corruption in the downloaded file or it's unable to extract the files it contains.  I don't know about the ISP cache probability, but it's possible I suppose.

As for the initial post on this thread, the Error 1722 is a bug in the InstallShield package.  If you google "Error 1722" you'll see hundreds of FAQ's from software companies about it.  From what we were able to tell while researching it during testing, it's an extreme timing issue that has no reliable means to reproduce, and goes away just as suddenly as it came.  Usually restarting Windows solves the problem.  It's good information that forcing an uninstall or manual removal of files helped.

I get this same error message, and I am using the full box version, not the download.  I have a brand new computer and a new windows xp installation.  I will play around with it a bit more and see if I can troubleshoot what could be wrong.

WWW

I did run into an error unpacking the installation.  It happened several times.    I have Audition installed on two computers, both running Winxp with sp-2 (recently updated).  One of the installations was flawless...the other one encountered this message several times.  After about 3 tries it installed.  I thought that it could be from a cheap cd-r I used to transfer the file.  I'm gonna look into it.
