Kihoalu, thanks for that about Ozone and iLok.  You learn something new every day  smiley

I can see why updates would be a problem for you if you never allow your audio PC to connect to the net.  Presumably, in that case authorisation HAS to be via iLok?

Well... I'm not sure.  I could be that iLock thing is only needed for the tools (like
Protools) that already use it. I think I can do a remote challenge-response like is done
with Audition where I run an "interrogator" and send the response to Izotope and then
they send me back a key.  But I have already spend at least 4 hours of my time reading
thru their website about how their DRM is supposed to work.  I figure they owe $500 for the
time I have wasted so far.  I never upgraded because I am sick and tired of wasting a
lot of my precious time dealing with such idiotic complexities.  If Izotope were willing to
pay me (and every other legal customer) $500 each time I have to through their particular
"torture chamber" (rather than asking me to paying the $69 upgrade charge) I might
consider upgrading.  rolleyes

Short of that, I will look for easier to use stuff (it doesn't even need to be cheaper).

Just went down same road re Ozone. Read the "now supported for all formats using Ilok"
and that seemed clear enough, so I authorized to an Ilok key-- but it doesn't work
for the Direct X and VST versions of their plugs -- only for RTAS -- which of course is of
no benefit to Audition users.

Izotope ultimately confirmed that (after many attempts to contact them).
Don't you just love misleading "official" info.....here the quick start and manual
said one thing, but the "updated" web site another, and I was silly enough to
believe the update on web site.

The end result was we authorized  to a flash drive and use that as a sort of Ilok key so
can run Ozone of different systems (1 at a time of course....) Lately those little
flash drives have become extremely cheap --- a pair of 1 gig Kingstons cost
about 1/2 the going price around here for one Ilok key.
Izotope does have a note on their web site about doing that. They wind up
being handy for moving smaller files around too.

Like others here, I'm very reluctant to let audio machines go online-- in fact
the few times I do that, it's dialup and go hook up an old external modem for the
purpose. But you can do the flash drive download on any machine so that's not an issue.
