I'm making this sticky, because I suspect that it will be something that's going to crop up quite frequently. Purchasing a copy of Audition 2.0 and activating it will give you the right to run it on 2 machines (they suggest a DAW and a portable), as long as they are not both run concurrently. So when you've activated it once on your DAW, you can activate it once more on a second machine - but that's all.

The activation system does allow transfers, though - so changing your hardware (or more specifically, the hard disk on which you've installed it) is easily possible. There is some basic Adobe information about activation here, and here. If you want to read the EULA that details the licence limitations, it's here, as a pdf.

If you are transferring an activated copy to a different or new computer, you can transfer the activation to the new computer. Go to the Help Menu of the application and choose Transfer Activation. You will need an internet connection to complete the activation transfer process. Upon completion of the activation transfer, your existing product installation will be rendered unusable, and you will be able to install and activate the copy on the new computer.

This is good. What you said first (So when you've activated it once on your DAW, you can activate it once more on a second machine - but that's all. ) made me quite nervous. My Audition was residing on about 6 different computers over last 6 month (of course, no more than 2 at a time), and I would be unhappy not to be able to move it anymore.

What you said first...

That's why I added the second para. And the wording of the first is strictly accurate - you will only be able to activate it concurrently twice. If you want to move it, you have to deactivate it, and reactivate again. You don't have to do this to both copies though - just the one you are altering. The rights management system takes care of this for you.

It does work, though - I've tested it.

I presume there is a procedure (phoning, I imagine) to deal with the case of a disk crash that prevents deactivation...

Yes, I think that's probably the case. In the event of some other forms of disaster, Adobe have a support document here that you might like to read...

This is good to know.  I bet I have had to uninstall and reinstall 1.5 a half dozen times since I bought it.  You know, had to replace the mother board or a hard drive crashed or whatever required a fresh install of Windows.  Sad

I'm glad they allow it to be on 2 computers.  Most software companies don't allow that anymore.  Atleast the ones I use Smiley

The smaller, independent software companies are often better on that front.  For example, Image-line changed their license for FL Studio to allow a single person to run it on multiple machines.  Similarly, I have bought (non-music) shareware utilities from a bunch of different people because they offered a personal license, so I can use the utilities at work and my multiple home computers.  In fact, I now give software developers offering such licenses preferential treatment, as I feel they deserve the encouragement.  For a large company, I'm actually quite happy that Adobe have a reasonable policy.

It is no small help when in a pinch that I can run Finale at home as well as work.  Still stuck with AA1.0 at home because it's on Win98!  Still, kudos to these companies!

Can you use the same activation # for 2 systems or do you have to have both systems on the internet to activate them seperately?

Activation is separate.  That way they can tell if you try to activate a third time!

So now I need to phone them, and guess what? They're closed when I'm at home with the computer concerned. evil

I'm much happier with my WaveLab dongle, which I can just plug in wherever I need it.
