I can recreate an Invalid Page Fault problem EVERY time. I am recording from Real Player streaming audio. If I stop recording in CE2K then stop Real Player, everything is fine, but if I stop Real Player FIRST then stop CE2K recording I ALWAYS get an Invalid Page Fault in CE2K. Happens with any length of recording (even just a few seconds).

CE2K version: Cool Edit 2000 1.1 build 2418 [CE2000]

The advice from others is to try a different approach - read this thread:
'real player recording with Cool Edit'

Thanks for the advice, Steve, but the thread you suggest seems to be mostly concerened with getting Real Player and CE2K to actually talk to each other. I have no problem there, just an Invalid Page Fault if I stop RP before CE2K. I suppose it could be described as a "cosmetic" bug but if there is a fix I would like to try it.

What particular method are you using to transfer the Real Player audio to CE? I am aware that there are at least two methods of doing an internal transfer, not just the one mentioned in the thread. Your problem may be just cosmetic, but if you are using a proprietry 'patch' system, there's this to consider as well.

To transfer from RP to CE2K:
Start->Control Panel->Multimedia->Audio->Recording and there I have "Mixer" selected

Something else that occurred to me was that this process relies on DirectX within your system. If you have DX8, you should upgrade it to 8a, which gets over some sound-related issues that can easily cause CE to stop working.

I'm not sure whether this actually works with RealPlayer, but it might be worth giving the demo a go anyway:

The reason that it might not work is that RealPlayer probably grabs the soundcard directly, which means that you have to record the way you are, effectively via the 'What U Hear' method.

This inexpensive product seems like an easy way to deal with this. It is supposed to be able to produce a wav file to HD for anything that plays through the soundcard.

Hi. Yes, the Total Recorder from high-criteria is a nice little app. I believe the demo only allows up to 40 seconds; but it's certainly worth the one-time license fee if it's something you'll use a lot. Be sure to test the demo first!!
