Anyone know when the release date for the Echo Indigo I/O PCMCIA card might be?

Their website now says Late July / Early Aug, but this is one of many revisions that I've seen. I'm hoping that someone might have heard a "real" date.

Thanks,

Chip

I don't think that any of us here have better information than you could get from the company press releases - like any reputable company, they try to exercise some control over this aspect of their business!

ZZounds.com's website claims to have them in stock. $99.95 with free shipping.

Yes, I've dealt with a few companies that do this - what happens if you turn up to collect one? Will it be there? Or are they just collecting advance orders?

Which is what I suspect as well. Approve

I've bought quite a bit of gear from zzounds and generally if they say they have it in stock they do.

Thanks for the info on Zzounds.com. I popped on over to check it out but all I found was an Echo Indigo not an Echo Indigo I/O. The crucial difference is that the normal Indigo has no analog inputs (it's a playback-only device) while the Indigo I/O has analog inputs. Unfortunately, the Indigo I/O is still vaporware.

I've been using a Digigram VXPocket V2 but we've been having problems with stability. I'm hoping that the Indigo I/O might be more stable.

Here's hoping...

Sorry, my mistake about the differing models.

Though if I were replacing a VXpocket v2 card I wouldn't be considering the Indigo i/o (No balanced i/o, no Mic input) as they're not really equivalent.

Have you looked at the Tascam US-122 usb device? It's fairly small, sturdily built and is a very good analog device (like the Indigo i/o it has no digital i/o). In "the field" I regularly use a Tascam US-224, but then I usually need the 224's control surface to control outboard midi gear.

For our needs, the VXPocket was WAY overkill. All that I need is to have a reasonably low noise floor (lower than the laptop's built-in A/D) and low-frequency extension to 5Hz or so.

The VXPocket did have both of these features...but it also had a ton of stuff we didn't need. For example, I don't need the 24 bits, the balanced inputs, or all the digital I/O.

As people around here know, there aren't too many choices for laptop sound cards. USB is cumbersome and unreliable...I'm hoping for a stable PCMCIA solution. The Indigo I/O looks to be just the form factor I'm looking for.

Surprisingly, even the Indigo's silly 1/8" phono jacks are also a lot easier for our clients to use versus the XLR jacks of the VXPocket. It looks like a win-win...if it is ever released.

I'm certainly open to other options...though as I said earlier, there is resistance to an external solution via USB/Firewire.

Thanks,

Chip

Well, you're going to need a fairly high sampling rate to get down to 5Hz (The Indigo is rated down to 10Hz @ 96/24)! That eliminates all of the USB devices that I'm aware of. FireWire might be an option, but for your application the Indigo--especially at its price-point--would seem to be ideal.

audiomidi.com has listed the Indigo i/o for pre-orders. You might e-mail them to see if they have an E.T.A. for their first shipment.

There's definitely been some confusion happening here. I remember that I first suggested the original Echo Indigo to another user (for monitoring purposes) some time ago, 'PC noise through headphones'. However, that unit is a monitoring tool, only!

Echo has, indeed, been brewing up two new indigo models: the I/O model, and a DJ model, in addition to the (US$99) monitoring model. They are obviously not on the market, as yet.

I would like to think that the a $100 price point would have thrown up a red flag on the I/O, but apparently not.... reality check time!
Heh-heh! :D

There are links to all three models, here. You get what you pay for...
;)

Best... -Jon
