How can I hear my VSTi when I play on the virtual keyboard?

1. Insert a MIDI track into your session by selecting Insert > MIDI Track, or by pressing the hotkeys Alt+m.

2. Enable Live Monitoring by selecting the red L button.

3. In the Session Properties dialog select Audition Mix for Monitoring.

4. Select the Sequencer button in the MIDI track controls, or double click the blue track background to bring up the sequencer.

5. From the VSTi selection box within the sequencer select your instrument.

If you do not see a VSTi that you know is installed on your system then click the puzzle shaped button in the upper right-hand corner of the sequencer.  This brings up the VSTi Plug-In manager, with which you can scan for plug-ins and enable/disable them.

6. You should now be able to hear your midi input when playing on the vertical keys in the piano roll editor, or on the Virtual Keyboard (the Piano Keys button in the upper right-hand corner will toggle the display of the Virtual Keyboard).  If you have multiple tracks within the sequencer the Virtual Keyboard will trigger the VSTi within the currently selected track.

To link your external midi keyboard to the program, use the icon to the right of the "jigsaw puzzle" icon (far right of the sequencer window).

I thought everything worked fine here at my place. Then I realised this:
I get the sound from vertical piano roll only while time line is moving.
The same happens with horizontal virtual piano.

What do I need horizontal virtual piano for?
I record midi with help of my midi keyboard but sometimes I write notes using pencil tool.
Vertical piano roll helps me to see where to write notes but I just can't figure it out what can I do with horizontal piano.
To test Vsti sound maybe?
If so why must time line move to get the sound. Or does it have to?

Confused by own ignorance

2. Enable Live Monitoring by selecting the red L button.
I think you may have missed this step.

The "virtual keyboard" is for those who find it useful for entering midi data or (as you say) quickly testing, and who do not have a real midi keyboard - if not useful to you, ignore it.

When I very first time loaded AA3,0 it recognized all my VSTi-plugins and marked Hypersonic like unsupported.
I tested Battery2, Korg M1, Korg Wave Station, Edirol Orchestral and some others.
I have another PC which is old and weak and I decided to do the same test on it.
It worked better than I expected.

1-orchestral problem:
Today I was going to start my very first AA3,0 project from the scratch and I noticed that suddenly edirol Orchestral was also marked as unsupported.
Strange! It still works on my old Pc.

What happened? I don’t know. What can I do to make it work again?
I was thinking of reinstalling Orchestrak but it works in Cubase on same PC. Hm
I scanned VSTi’s several times and the orchestral s still “unsupported”.

2-hypersonic problem:
Does anybody know if Hypersonic is really unsupported or maybe I expiriance the same fault with this VSTi?

thanks

Both Orchestral and Hypersonic work now.
I don't know what I did in the meantime but today I did new scan and everything started to work properly.
