Hello Bert and others!

Here’s some thoughts about Auditions parameter-settings, based on Berts old post from 2008. YES  = I have the same settings or done the same configurations)

* Disable a big number of services such as indexing, messaging ... in the OS (+) YES

* Remove (not only disable) any PCI-cards except for the recording interface and video (in my systems, there is only 1 PCI slot occupied). May be you have even to select this slot by try and error. YES

* Disable disk caching (+) but make sure DMA is ON YES

* Cleaning up temp-files and other debris and defragment disk before work (+) YES

* Clean up registry YES

* In /adobe/settings/multitrack:    increase rec. Buffers       10 -> 20 (+ ?)

Do you mean the soundcards buffer size? Well...the size effects the latency, so I have to adjust it depending of what I'm doing. During midiwork and recording I have to keep it as small as possible, but during editing and mixing I can keep it high (=larger).
Specially during recording midi with an external keyboard using Vsti:s I have to decrease the buffer size to 64-128 samples (recording in 44,1 khz), but during mixing I usually increase it to 512-1024.
I understand (and accept) that Audition can crash when you have a 64 samples buffer size and your  whole VSTi-arsenal activated. That can be considered  "normal". But my Audition can crash even when I have only 1-3 short audiotracks in the session, no miditracks, no VSTi:s, and a buffersize of 1024 samples.

Priority background mix    2 -> 20 (+ ?)
   Hook no corrections
   Open order         Rec,Play (+ ?)
   Start order          Rec,Play (+ ?)

I don't think Audition 3 has these setting options? Are they perhaps in your soundcards settings?

* In /adobe/settings/system:    increase rec. Buffer length   8192 -> 16384 (+ ?)

Is this the Wave Cache Size? It is a big mystery for me. Ok...the manual says "Determines the amount of memory that Adobe Audition reserves for processing data. Recommended cache sizes range from 8 to 32 MB (32 MB is the default)"
Somewhere else I read that if you have more than 1 GB RAM you should increase the Wave cache size to 128 MB.
But technically, what does it do? Is it something similar to page-filing? Or like the soundcards buffer? If it is, shouldn't you decrease it to zero?
I have 8 GB RAM (ok, when I downgrade to XP 32bit I can only access 3 GB), but what is then the right value for the Wave cache? 128 MB?
Or more? Or zero?

* Increase priority for AA to high (must be done at every start !) (+)
YES. You do this in the Windows Task Manager, don’t you?

In addition to this:

My primary temporary folder is D:\Temp, and the secondary folder C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp
hmm...when I write this, I notice that windows (or Audition) has changed the secondary folder and location by itself. I had specified the folder to be C:\Adobe Temp 2. Strange...

In Preferences-Display there is something called Peak Files-Peak Cache. My setting is 256/clip and "save peak cache files" is ticked. Any experience if these settings has any effect on Auditions performance? I know that the peakfiles makes opening of files much faster, but does it have any negative impacts?

In Audio Hardware Setup-Surround Encoder I have all output ports swithed to “none” since I work only with stereo. I’m not sure if the Left and Right outputs on this page should be activated in despite of this?

Generally I must say that I’ve tried to mess around with all these settings for years, but I cannot really perceive any cause and effect.
