In the Realtek Audio Manager setup, you need to select the Default Format at 44,100. The default is 48000.

My understanding, based on a Microsoft statement, was that the default default sample rate setting in Vista was 48kHz for both recording and playback, and that this was changed in Windows 7 so that the default became 44.1kHz.
However, I have just taken delivery of a brand new Thinkpad laptop. After running through the "set up for first use" procedure, I went straight in to the "Manage Audio Devices" area in Windows Control Panel only to discover that the default settings were Recording 44.1, Playback 48kHz. This machine has Realtek audio and these settings are ridiculous.
I then completely wiped and reinstalled Windows 7 on another Lenovo (lesser than Thinkpad) machine with Connexant audio. The pure unLenovo'd Win 7 set up the defaults as 44.1 for both record and playback. I then installed the Connexant "Smart Audio" drivers and there was no change to the 44.1 for both.
I haven't got the Lenovo installation disks for the cheaper machine, so I don't know whether it's Lenovo or Realtek that have got it wrong.
