Windows 7 - What am I doing wrong?

Ok - I am trying to transition to Win7 (64) and having an issue or 2.

So my new PC (I'm still running the studio on an xp pc at present) consists of an i5 2500 @ 4.6ghz and a 150gb Raptor for C drive and a handful of disks for the rest.
TI Firewire 800 pcie card connected to an RME FF800 - essentially unplugging the lead to the RME from my existing setup and pluging in a lead from the new PC for testing.
Using the Asio Fireface driver

Everything I need is installed and runs like all powers of pi$$.

However, I have a problem with audio playback - (haven't tried recording yet - one thing at a time)

AA3 seems fine in both MT & EV
AA4 is fine in edit view but in MT there is a high pitched noise and its almost like the audio device is being overloaded.
Same issue with Reaper (x64)

It has to be something simple (perhaps even me)

Do you have the latest driver for the RME and is it compatible with Win7 64-bit? Check the RME site and the RME forums for any issues with any versions of the drivers for your Fireface.

Do you have the latest BIOS for your new motherboard?  If not, upgrade the BIOS.

I have the latest RME drivers (win7 x64) and the latest bios.
Concerned that it is happening in CS5.5 and not AA3

I only tried AA4 with 32-bit W7 and haven't tried any firewire devices with Windows 7, so what do I know, but just for my interest....

Does the Fireface appear in the Windows Control Panel Recording and playback tabs and, if so, does it make any difference if you disable it there?

I have disabled the onboard soundcard and the RME FF800 only shows up (obviously) when I turn it on.
I'm not in the studio right now I'm not sure if disabling the FF800 in the playback tab but I will try it.

As I mentioned, I can't understand why AA3 works but not CS5

Ok - found out what the squeel was - the session I cobbled together was 24 tracks from an old 2" tape I was going to get around to working on. Well you guessed it the 24th track was a sync track - good old SMPTE squeel!

Didn't see that one coming - LOL

And in the mean time you tweaked your OS for better performance.

Well I must admit that AA3 actually flies on the new pc as does everything else.
Still having one issue with CS5 but I'll do more testing before I embarrass myself further

Sorry Alan, have to disagree with the sentiment!

For me, Win 7 (32 bit, so have no advice/suggestions to offer Runaway) has been absolutely fine with both AA 3.01 and AA CS 5.5.
