Haven't seem many Audition users online that are into creating sound out of images, and tbh Metasynth is probably a better suited tool for this than AA3 is...  tongue

However, I don't have Metasynth, but I have had some success using AA3 and an image editor as effects processor, and also creating waveforms and long abstract soundscapes from various images. I must say that it is a very fun way of working, as I have used CEP/AA for sound design in my music for many years now. I use the Gimp Open Source editor for images.

By importing an image/drawing using the "Pure Tones" option, for example, AA can be used as an additive synth (of sorts), even if the process of doing this is a little convoluted...

Create new file > insert silence (how long you want the sound to be) > display as spectrum > select all > import bmp as direct paste (now you can choose the frequency spacing between the tones) > import mono > work on the file to make it sound good, convert to stereo etc

I do have some problems with the "carve/modulate" option which is, according to the manual, supposed to use the image as a filter or mask on a sound, but does not work quite as expected. This works better in an image editor tbh.

Also, importing an already exported file does not always open. It goes through all the emotions, but when you choose the sample rate/bit rate and click OK, it does nothing. This even happens on an unaltered bmp file exported from AA3. Not sure what happens there, I will need to look deeper into that.

Also, I assume AA uses FFT to convert back and forth between audio and bitmap?

Anyway, just throwing this out there in case there is a wee bit of interest for it somehow...

Sounds like fun.  If I can solve all the non-functional stuff AA 5.5 or AA 3.01 I might give that a try.
