This may sound like a bit of a downer, but I can assure you that it's absolutely the painful truth...
Nobody looks at that sort of showcase these days, I'm afraid - there are far too many people doing that. The only thing you can usefully do in this direction is to work out what it is that you can do that's unique (if anything), find out who wants/needs that, and target those people directly. Nobody buys services - they buy people. You have to press the flesh... and you start out by working virtually or absolutely for nothing - because if you don't, there are several other people around who will.
This is absolutely not about what you know or can do - but who you know.
Having worked in the radio/TV industry for a decade, I will agree entirely with Steve. Showcases are just noise and don't really do anything for you. Think of them as road signs. Not terribly memorable.
The best thing to do is hold on to your passion, and throw yourself at every opportunity to learn. You will meet interesting people, learn a ton, and things have a way of falling into place once you're "one of us".
