A couple things have been bothering me for a while now.  A few phrases I read about on forums all the time, so I can spell them, I know what they mean etc...but i don't know how to pronounce them.

I can only think of 2 off the top of my head but, there are more and I will add them if I think of them.

ASIO - is it an acronym? or do you say ass-ee-oh? or Ass-eye-oh?

Neumann - I've heard people say both "New-Man" and "Noy-Man"  Which is it?

Feel free to add your own if you have a "dumb" question.

Thanks,

Randy.

It's an acronym - Audio Stream Input Output - and a proprietary protocol from Steinberg (although very widely used and now a de-facto standard).  Personally, I go for the second pronounciation, but I don't think it matters very much.

2nd one.

I get the impression that if you are from some parts of America (sometimes pronounced by over-enthusiastic commentators, etc. as 'O-merica', especially on wrestling shows, apparently) that it's pronounced more like Ah-see-oh than anything else. The Germans invented it, so if they pronounced it, it would have a much harder 'Ah', and more stress on the first syllable than the Omericans would give it, of course...

These commentators seem to like the sound of 'O'. They also seem to refer to anybody called Elizabeth as 'O-lizabeth'. Oh...

I thought this was a function primarily of compatriot Canadians  (though I must admit that I do not view many pro wrestling broadcasts)

Neither do I - but my kids used to, which is where I first heard it.

oh, & it's probably an 'ear' thwang but while I've lived in every region of US except Maine and N. Dakota and an occasional Elizabeth with whom I've been up close and personal might respond to 'Betsy' none, to date, would have responded to 'O-lizabeth'

(admittedly there is probably a bit more daily german  left in Queen's (O-lizabeth too?) english then in south Tex-Mex drawl with attendant rural informality turning Regina II into Chebella (sort of) with nary an '0' in sight/sound (outside of the wrestling ring))
