Track Markers not Exporting to CD Project

I’m having some problems exporting a multitrack session into a CD Project.  I’ve created a multitrack session and added several track markers by selecting a range and then pressing Ctrl-Shift-F8.  The markers show up as expected in the multitrack view and all show that they are track markers in the Markers tab, but when I export to the CD view, there are no markers in the file.  I’ve done this before with success, but can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.  In the Export Audio Mix Down dialog I have selected Master for the Source, Entire Session for the Range, and made sure the Include all Markers and Metadata and Insert Mixdown Into CD View boxes are checked.

You have to be aware though, that although it says that it's exporting to CD view, all that means is that it's doing a mixdown to Edit View, and then just opening this in CD view. So the thing to do is to check that your mixdown has appeared in EV, and that the marker regions have been exported correctly to there - because if they haven't, then nothing at all appears in CD view... what this in effect says is (quite reasonably) that you can't make a CD directly from a set of session file instructions - it has to be done from a file that can be converted into 16-bit stereo in one hit - and that means a mixed-down file.

Okay, so I did Edit -> Mixdown to New File -> Master output in session (Stereo) and got the same result in Edit View—one very long track with no track markers.  The most frustrating part is that I just did this very thing last week and got the results I wanted, multiple tracks.  Should I try Adobe Customer Support?

Very odd…  I signed on to another account on my computer, opened the session, and exported to the CD project, and everything worked perfectly—all the tracks showed up just the way they were supposed to.  Any ideas as to why?

I wouldn't necessarily have expected this to work from Mixdown to New File (although I have to say that I'm not quite sure why...) - normally, you'd do it from File>Export.

I believe that in the past, there have been a few oddities noted about what happens when you don't use an account that has all the admin permissions - but quite why that would affect the way marker positions are transferred within the software I can only guess at. I recall though that there have certainly been CD-related issues, mainly with drives refusing to rip, or not showing at all. It's just possible that nothing has shown in CD view because the drive doesn't appear - it might be worth going back to the other login and seeing what exactly the limitations with your CD drive actually are, because on the face of it, I think that this is very likely to be behind whatever's happening.

Both accounts I’m using are admin accounts (one is my wife’s, one is mine).  Oddly enough, on the one with which I’m having the CD track problems (mine), I also can’t record “what you hear” either.  On my wife’s account it records just fine.  Do you think reinstalling Audition would correct the problem?  I really don’t know that much about drivers, etc. but I would assume that if I install software, its features should work correctly regardless of the user account.

Unfortunately, due to the weird things that M$ get up to with their policy settings, you can't guarantee at all that all users get treated the same. And reinstalling Audition won't make any difference either - if there is one user that it works fine for, then by definition the software is installed correctly.

If, for whatever reason, one admin user gets different results from another, then it's the user permissions in the OS in regard of Audition that are likely to need looking at, not a reinstall. If you right-click on the Audition icon and go to Properties>Shortcut>Advanced Properties, you may well find that it's running with different credentials on each account - and that's all it would take.

Mystery solved!!!  When I was saving the file, I was saving it as Windows Media no a PCM (wav).  I guess WMAs can’t handle track markers?  Anyway, thanks for all of your helpful suggestions.  I’m really grateful for this board and all of the advice and solutions I’ve read through the years.

Yup, that's it. It's only wavs (Audition native format) that support marker metadata. I would  have suggested this earlier, but you said that at one stage it worked...
