Hello. I just recorded a cover of umbrella by Rhianna and I would like to pan the Ella parts left and right. I think I have to use the graphic panner or Pan/expand effect but they don't highlight in the list. They stay grayed out. Is there a step that I am missing before I can use this? I am in edit view. Thanks.

I think you may have to have stereo files open for these to work. If you only have a mono file convert it into a stereo one using F11 shortcut.

If you have recorded multitracks wouldn't you just adjust the pan setting on each/the vocal track?

That would be the way to do it.  Setup an "envelope" where you can draw the pan control setting on the multitrack waveform display.  I don't have my DAW running right now so I can't dig up the specific steps, but if you have trouble getting there come back for more info.

What do you mean by "Ella parts"?  Are these simply background vocal tracks or are you referring to a single vocal track?

It's an echoing background vocal part.
The lead stops at the word Umbrella - the backup goes
ella ... ella ... ella

from an unfinished project for reference
