AA3 and shortcuts to .wav files

On a new project, I started keeping shortcuts to final versions of .wav files in a "Finished" folder. In either AA2 or AA3, in Edit View, I've found that I can successfully Open a single shortcut/link in the Finished folder with no problems but if I attempt to Open more than one link at a time, AA2 and AA3 both refuse to open the wav shortcuts with the error message "Could not open file: (list of files with names of the form yaddahyaddah.wav.lnk) The selected file does not appear to be a supported file type."  The same links _will_ be successfully opened if I Open them one at a time.

I use a consistent file name convention to know the "pedigree" of the final .wave files so the shortcuts in my Finished folder always point to the latest version of the tracks I'm working on. While I can individually open the shortcuts, it would be nice to Open multiple shortcuts at once as well as single shortcuts.

Has anyone else noticed this? I searched through the forums and didn't find mention of this. It may be a Windows Thing, this is running AA2 and AA3 under XP Pro SP2.
