Quality Control

After waiting for weeks, I finally recieved my boxed copy of AA3. And guess what? The main cab file was corrupted and wouldn't install!
It makes me want to !!!!!  (apologies to Godley and Creme)

What's a cab file?

Dob, a cabinet file is a standard device used for installing Windows software or even OSs.  Someone else will have to do a better job offering a technical explanation here, but it's really a large archive file containing many sub-components that the installer program draws from to put an application on your system.  Needless to say, if it's bad, it's not going to work!

Mark, do you have PlexTools or something like it available to you?  I happened to run an error check on my AA3 CD-ROM and found a bad area in the middle of the disc, though not so bad as to contain uncorrectable errors.  But quite a burst of C2s, which is unusual for a disc that appears to be physically perfect.

As far as pressing plant quality control...  well, everyone wants cheap these days, so competition demands compromises.  Now Mark is the victim of it!  Wish I could loan you mine, but it's a tad far.

Hi and thanks for the kind thought! I tried to install something else later and had a similar message which made me go "hunh?" When I managed to get four brain cells on line at once, I wondered if maybe some other process is interfering. I shall investigate, but I might need to get up to six brain cells functioning which could take a while!

Well wouldyacreditit! After disabling my internet connection and closing down my firewall and antivirus I tried again and.....it woiked! Wonders will never cease. I tried the other program, but it still failed, but at a different point.

I'm confused...  it worked, but something quit at a different point?  Does this mean you still are prevented from installing AA3?

I wrote in a previous post that "I tried installing something else later and had a similar message............" AA3 works fine!
