Clicks/Pops with Effects On
Hello, I am running a session in Multitrack with 7 tracks total and two have just a graphic EQ, one has a multiband compressor, and the master has a multiband compressor.
When I play it back, it clicks/pops/skips as if the computer can't handle it, but that just seems weird to me.
It seems like it should be able to handle much more than this.
I have an Intel P4 DualCore running at 3.2 GHz and 2GB of RAM.
Is there some kind of setting that I'm missing somewhere to fix this?
In the preferences, the Wave Cache is 128MB. Not sure if that matters.
Thanks!

Try locking the effects on the tracks. They can always be unlocked again if you want to change anything, but generally this raises the available replay track count considerably.
The other thing you have to consider is the rate at which material streams from your HD - in your case, this probably isn't a processor/RAM issue at all.

Re: Clicks/Pops with Effects On
Thanks, that does work when I Freeze Track, but then the Automation is unavailable and it has to render the effects on the file first and it takes a while and it's just a hassle. Kinda disappointing that I would have to do that.
Is that a common thing that most people do?
Simple 10 band graphic EQ's shouldn't take up much CPU power at all, should they?

Re: Clicks/Pops with Effects On
I notice in the help files it says this about the Wave Cache in the System Tab:
"Cache Size Determines the amount of memory that Adobe Audition reserves for processing data. Recommended cache sizes range from 8 to 32 MB (32 MB is the default)."
Should I bring mine down to 32? Is it not the bigger the better here?

When working in Audition, yes. If you are using ASIO drivers, try changing to a larger buffer.

No they shouldn't.

Re: Clicks/Pops with Effects On
This is almost certainly a setup issue - I have a similar machine and have no problems with lots of tracks and lots of effects. Check the ASIO settings, and your video driver (I know, but it can have a big effect
). The speed of your memory can have a big effect is it 400 or 800 Mhz?

Re: Clicks/Pops with Effects On
That session configuration should not cause clicking and popping. The common bottlenecks that will manifest with skipping and popping are ASIO Buffer size, Hard Drive throughput and fragmentation, and cpu/memory.
Your CPU and Memory are both more than adequate. If your temp folder is located on the same drive as the session file, you may experience a slower session load time, but it shouldn't have a drastic effect on playback. If you're not recording and monitoring, I'd highly recommend setting the ASIO buffer as high as you're comfortable with. 1024 or 2048 samples gives more than adequate headroom for the application to process each chunk of data, while minimizing latency and lag between pressing Play and hearing sound.
If this doesn't help, we can keep troubleshooting.
