AA3 Records in Mono?
OK, I download the trial version of AA3 and set up all the usual stuff. Play a couple of previously recorded stereo files and all seems fine.
Now, I set up to record from a vinyl 33 record. This record
is
a mono record, but I transfer it in stereo. Hit F10 and monitor the input levels - all fine. Hit record and set sample/bit depth and off it goes - recording in
mono
. Do a lot of chasing around, checking routing, etc. but all seems fine. So I check system using previous versions - they all work fine.
So, I wondered if someone was being overly clever and using the software to determine the original was a mono recording and automatically adding the channels together? Go find a stereo LP - put that on and get exactly the same result!! WTF?
Short version - input monitors in stereo but records in mono.
The only thing I can think of is that, when I installed the software, there was a warning that I didn't have SP2 (I'm on XP) installed and some things might not function - of course, it didn't say
what
wouldn't work, that would be far too logical. I'm not installing SP2, so I went ahead anyway. Apart from this problem, everything I want seems OK.
Has anyone any idea what's happening here?

You are in edit view correct? I don't think this has changed since 2.0. When you hit record the new waveform dialog pops up and asks for sample rate, channels (mono or stereo), and bit depth. Is this what you are seeing?

Are we talking EV or MV? I just tried this on the laptop in EV and it definitely records in stereo. You do get some options in the audio hardware setup that look like [01M] [02M] [01S], and you have to pick the S one, but it's definitely recording two discrete channels.
I checked MV as well - just the same. Nothing clever has been done with the input arrangements - they
are
the same as they were in 2.0.

That's it!!!
I knew it had to be something pretty basic. I can't believe I missed something as simple as that - and you wouldn't believe the number of times I checked the hardware setup
.
Put it down to too much consumption of the falling-over liquid

Well he very kindly gave me a bottle of (Spanish) PATXARAN AITOR when we last met, and if that's what he drinks at home then I can see why he might have a problem telling the difference between M and S.
It's 25% proof, and it has quite a kick - enough to give your eyes a hard time, anyway! And, I'm ashamed to say that I'm still working my way through it... but it's actually pretty good stuff.

Re: AA3 Records in Mono?
Well, my normal tipple is Glen Orchy, a blend of Scottish malt whiskys - 7:99 € a bottle (that's about £5:60) from the local supermarket. Pretty good stuff, expecially at that price. I've never seen it in the UK, so I guess it's an export only brand. A bottle of J&B (cooking whisky, nowhere near as good) will set me back about 12 €.
I love Patxaran - I can't believe you haven't finished it off yet, Steve - but it's not good in large doses, you feel
really
rough in the morning if you drink too much of that in one go. That said, I always take a bottle with me if I go abroad. I've never seen it sold anywhere else and its unique taste reminds me of home.

Re: AA3 Records in Mono?
We were down in San Sebastian at the beginning of last month and I rushed to the nearest hypermarket to pick up some bargains - only to find that all the of branded whiskies were about €1 more expensive than I was getting here in France. I came back with a couple of bottles of Spanish brandy (not bad at all, and very cheap!) and some sherry, which barely exists here. What I
was
jealous of was the price of petrol - quite a lot cheaper than here...
