As to more subtle things, I would say the mix is WAY more important than the gear choice.  I do think the way the engineer brings it all together can have a big impact.  But as long as it's clean and quiet, I doubt if specific choice makes much difference.  Except that, again, the engineer will choose his colors.

If you haven't heard Justin Timberlake's 2006 smash single "Sexyback" you've probably been living on a desert island with no exposure to pop culture.

Sorry, no desert island for me either, and I haven't heard this.  They are probably right about the "no exposure to pop culture" though.  (And, no, as some people here may remember, I'm not exactly in the classical / orchestral camp either. wink)

It's amazing - I know I heard that timberhead song, but I cannot remember anything at all about it! A perfect pop song I guess, completely disposable! grin

uh ... I haven't, and I'm OK with that.

I thought you were going to say, "Justin who...?" grin

Well, for my part I have a vague knowledge of the existence of the guy just because his name pops up in various forums.  It's difficult to be completely isolated from pop culture.  I have no idea what he sounds like though.

See my previous post for scientific explanation of why you don't know what he sounds like!

Yep. And he sang produced noise with *Nsync. And he was Britney S.' boyfriend for a while. I guess that he's as famous for his lady friends as for his music. Which is a shame, because I think his music (i.e. post-*Nsync), production wise, is interesting indeed. Everyone to his taste, I guess.
