Click/Pop Elimination Questions. My Head Is Spinning.

I've just started using Audition 2.0 to record my albums to computer. I have read the entire printed manual plus the more extensive online manual regarding Click/Pop Elimination. I've also scoured these forums, including the archives.  I've experimented a little with both the "Auto Click/Pop Eliminator" and the "Click/Pop Eliminator".  Unfortunately, in my opinion, the documentation on how best to use the "Eliminators" is sorely incomplete.  I could use some advice from experienced users.

1. Is the "Auto Find All Levels" button supposed to help fine tune the "threshold", "detect" and "reject" settings to work best with your particular recording?
2. Would it always be best or most accurate to use this button, instead of just picking one of the four presets that are available?
3. If I just click on the "Find Threshold Levels Only" button, the three returned threshold levels will not match those generated by the "Auto Find All Levels" button. Does anyone understand why this is so?  I assume the three threshold levels are calculated RMS averages in the waveform.  Why do the results differ between the two buttons?
4. Do the "Sensitivity" and "Discrimination" values only affect what values are generated when you click on the "Auto Find All Levels" button? In other words, they do not actually determine how clicks are chosen, but only the subsequent threshold, detect and reject values will?
5. My "Sensitivity" and "Discrimination" values are set at 14 and 20. Are those good values for vinyl record restoration?
6. Does anyone have any specific suggestions how to best use these powerful tools?
7. I tried applying the click remover to an entire album after first using the "Auto Find All Levels" button. It removed 49,962 clicks and rejected 67,571. Those numbers just seem incredible to me! The resulting WAV file sounds fine, but I'm concerned about the extensive processing that was done. Should I be manually entering much more restrictive threshold, detect and reject values to insure that I don't mangle my music? Any specific suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Most of my albums are rock, jazz and country. Thanks.

Hey - just commenting in general. Try to go through each song by hand and see where the pops are. Work on fixing each pop. By hand. AA 1.5 had a transient repair. There is a marquis frequency tool that lets you work on selective areas of a wav. The only time you press a button and expect the world to change is when you are using Pro Fools or in the military at war. In either case you get mass destruction.

I think firstly - On AA 1.5 you can use other presets which will eliminate the clicks and pops. Don't use the Factory presets as they are crap ! in my opinion. Play with the settings long enough and you will eventually get it right. It's very hard to offer support on this, because we have no idea how poor the audio is !
It would actually be easier to send me the file so i can do this for you although i dont know if your allowed upload to this site. Are you ?

If you use the click/threshold buttons - Note: your best to adjust from the factory defaults and alter the sensitivity etc... when scanning for clicks/pops. I advise to only highlight the areas that are effected. ( Not The Whole File  )

It is a very powerful tool and I think the only real way to learn how to use it is through trial and error - and using your ears, rather than numbers on a screen.

Just to repeat what others have already said, you are much better off using these tools where you have a problem, rather than across a complete file.  This is true of all such softwares, not just CEP/AA.
