Hi there,

I have been trying to get my rips right for ages now.
I am using a Numark TT USB Turntable.
Soundforge as my recording software.
I am connecting through USB.
All my rips seem to have a metally sound kind of a hissing sound specifically on beginning of tracks, on quiet bits and at the end.
I recognise the sound when i had a faulty connection with a microphone it would make a metallic kind of sound.
This can be heard if you have it kind of loud and if you have headphones on.
I think it may also be responsible for affecting the bass, on a lot of my vinyls which are up to 6 years old when i record them the bass is either too much or too little. But new pressed vinyls dont come out too bassy or too trebly they still have that metallic hissy sound though.
I REALLY want to know how to resolve this issue.
Please get back to me mate.

Cheers.

Mart.

PS Beneath this i have provided a link with one of my rips one, you will know what im talking about when you hear it Wink

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully we can turn you into an Audition user!

Thus has all the hallmarks of a mistracking cartridge sound to it. The scratchy noises I can hear aren't so much in the centre of the soundfield, but wider out - that's where a lot of tracking difficulties start. Trouble is, I think that to fix this, you are going to need to start over with the setup, and possibly change the stylus as well - they do  wear. I don't know what cartridge they use with this TT, but considering the overall price of the deck, I don't think that it's likely to be too great either.

The obvious things to check are that the entire assembly is perpendicular to the record surface, and that the tracking weight is within the acceptable spec (Numark should have provided you with this info). Either of those on its own being incorrectly set could cause this sort of sound.

I'd like to blame SoundForgery, of course, but somehow I don't think I'lll get away with that...  smiley

Hi Steve,

Many thanks for the welcome mate.
A pleasure to be helped so quickly aswell.

I have recently bought 2 Elektro Orotfon Stylus so if it is the Cartridge i iwll be very disappointed Sad

How would i need to adjust the weight proiperly do you think?

Do you really htink it is the cartridge, cos it was so so expensive, i got it brand new.

I will also start using Adobe Audition in future for my rips.

Ah, if you've changed the cartridge, then you will have to set the new one up for the deck/arm anyway, or it will certainly not track correctly. The cartridge and arm are a system, and if the two are not compatible in terms of compliance, then you will get tracking errors. It doesn't mean that the cartridge is bad - it just means that it might not be compatible - Numark will be able to tell you. But even if it is, you still have to adjust it correctly.

You either need a stylus pressure gauge, or to follow Numark's instructions to the letter, if there are any, (and carefully) if you want to get it to track at the correct pressure.
