Hi my name is Adrian Stubbs, i work for a chain of radio stations since i was 17 doing audio production, i am now 20 years old. i never went to school to do production or anything like that, infact, i never even finished high school, so there are a few things i still have to learn.

one thing that i have been breaking my head to know is how to make this effect (Effect sample enclosed in file.)

this is part of a spot that i recieved from another studio, and that effect they use on the voice kicks ass, and i wanna know ow to do it.

or is that just how he has his voice, i doubt it though.

can anyone help me please?

It's hard to say definitively from the clip, but it sounds to be quite heavily compressed and pitch shifted down. The exact settings you'd need would rather depend on the voice you used for the original though.

In addition to other effects, it sounds like some sort of really fast phaser was used....but that's just a guess huh

To me, it sounds like a high-pass filter...Or at least a major boost in the high-mids and highs.  It also sounds like it has some digital feedback, which could probably be achieved with the flanger.

or ... do you mean the compression? To newbies it's the Voice of God effect, it give that ballsy sound to voice, which we take for granted. There is compression in Audition, find it in Effects > Amplitude > Dynamics Processing.

There could follow an epic of a thread on the whys and wherefores of using compression, but I would advise that you don't use it for radio because the radio station broadcast equipment also adds compression to all audio and you don't want anything compressed TWICE, it sounds really bad.

With all that racket going on, who knows?  Definitely some compression and EQ to my ear, else you'd never hear it over the din.  But I'm not certain about shifting or phaser effects.  That just might be a really great set of VO pipes.

Definitely compression, low EQ boost, and MAYBE a touch of flanging. There is a lot of racket! And 3 seconds is hardly a fitting clip for detective work...

Recently I recorded a gospel quartet who had a killer bass singer. These guys live and die by their bass singers at their quartet conventions.  Which quartet has the deepest bass? Who has the highest, purest, tenor? Stuff like that. This particular bass singer could sing incredibly low, with a HUGE natural resonance, and it was easy to achieve this type of effect without too much processing.  While I recorded the lead, tenor and baritone voices simultaneously, I tracked his voice by itself and compressed, then boosted below 100Hz or so. Over the course of 3 tracking sessions, I added just a touch of reverb to one set of takes. I think he had the beginnings of a cold... I also recorded him without the usual room treatment and baffles that I usually employ. Hard walls! It's the old story; it's relatively simple when you have a great voice to start with!

You definitely are NOT going to achieve this if you start with Tiny Tim's voice!
