Play other files while recording?

Hi all,

I've been recording a weekly podcast for a few weeks.  We've been going back and adding interviews and such during post up to now.  Is there a way to have a include a prerecorded interview in multitrack view while we record, so we can actively comment while it is being played?  The only way that I can see right now would be to add the file to a track quickly, while the recording is happening.  I'm sure there's another way though.

I think you want to use AA as a mixing desk and record at the same time? I don't see how you can use the PLAY and RECORD controls in AA at the same time though, which is effectively what you are asking isn't it? But it would not surprise me if there was a way. Something like arm one track for record and another for play, I'd love to know if this is possible. I know that in Cubase and FL Studio you can record over or "add" a recording to a recording or a track that is playing, so if it's not possible in AA...

Playing one track while recording another is exactly how multitrack is supposed to work. But I guess you want to start playback at any time rather than at a preset time which could be more difficult.

If you can drag tracks around while recording (I know you can do this while playing but I've never tried while recording) then you could maybe put the track to be played a long time in the future and then drag it into place while recording. Otherwise you would have to have the track to be played in a fixed place and just time the rest of the interview around it - or do that section of the interview separately.
