Just to let you know when I click on the Icon, it tells me about re-directing but just gets caught in a loop.

Nothing new there - I reported this same problem in July 2005 - and it still hasn't been fixed.

It works fine in both Firefox and Opera, but does what you say in my IE7.  I suspect there's some security setting that it's sensitive to, but I won't investigate until the morning.

Has the behavior changed at all?  I believe it has to do with a compression/retrieval method that mac used to cut down on the bandwidth to the archives.

Yes - now, when I click on the link it asks me if I want to save a file !!

I believe it has to do with a compression/retrieval method that mac used to cut down on the bandwidth to the archives.

I think that was a secondary issue, which I also reported.  Even when I did manage to access the archive, all I got was garbage.

In fact, I have not been able to access the Syntrillium forum archive for several years.

For the record, I'm currently running XPpro, SP2, IE6

I can reach the archive okay - what I can't do is get any sense from searching it. All I get is warning messages telling me that it can't be accessed, or something to that effect.

Yeah, when the search function in the archives works...it doesn't work very well!

I have company in town for most of the day today.  But later tonight I will go through the whole archive and try to get it running smooth for everybody.

The only thing I changed was removing the compression from the index page of the archives.  So if you can see the index of the archives then that's a good thing.  Personally I would love to have the phpbb version of the archives back because the search feature was a heck of a lot better.  But I doubt that anybody has a backup of it setup that way.

It will probably be a few days before I get anything significant done with the archives.  I'm looking into a better search facility, and I am updating all the files.  There are over 10,000 files, and each one contains broken links due to url changes.  Luckily these updates will be made automatically, but it will take a while to get the files on the server updated.

Yes - it works cool .

This is the first time I have been able to both access and read the old forums, since I can't remember when!

I don't know what you did - and I don't really care - but I'm truly grateful this has finally been fixed.

Many thanks.

Cool!  afro  Now I'm gonna start working on upgrading the search feature.  At the moment it uses google, and searches not only the archives but also the main forums.  That's not helpful.

If anybody runs into problems let me know.

The search on the archives has been changed.  Let me know what you all think.

Hold that thought!  There are problems with the archives, and the search.

Known problems:
  • broken links within the archives
  • the search is incomplete, posts are missed
