WWW

A favicon is the website's logo or icon in the address bar of the browser.  It is also used alongside the title of the site in bookmarks.  I think it is a shame that AudioMasters does not have one.  Hence, I have made one for it.  It is attached as a gif at the end of this post.  When properly installed, it should be installed as an .ico file.  I have it in that format as well if somone would like me to email it to them.  Installing the favicon is as easy as putting the ico file under the rootdirectory, aka http://audiomastersforum.net/favicon.ico .

If you would like more of an explanation, WIKI to the rescue:

Anyhoo, here is the favicon I created for this site.  If anyone can make a better one, please do.  I hope you guys set one up.  It makes the site look that much better.

We have actually had one before - I don't know where it's got to.

Hmmm... I put Ultra's favicon up.  I'm not too sure where the old favicon went, but I'm thinking that it has to do with when the host shut us down temporarily.   evil

Hmm... this one looks suspiciously like a blue version of the Adobe one... the original had a rather more distinctive M in it.

Yeah, I'm gonna search for the old one when I get a chance.  Unless anybody has another one as a suggestion.  It appears that Ultra's is our logo smashed down quite a bit.

I noticed that but kudos to Ultra for a nice conception. Submit your best effort here. cheesy

I think that you should be able to find it using Search - it should be a separate .ico file, so searching files using the term *.ico should reveal its location. I've probably got it somewhere too, but strangely not on this PC - which is odd, because there are loads of others, and it should be there with them. I'll try the other one later.

I did that.  Even searched hidden folders.  Got lots of "favicon.ico" files.  None would open in my .ico viewer, however.   huh

As a side-issue to this thread, my experience with favicons has not bee so great.  I visit quite a lot of places which have one, some of these are stored in my favourites or links list.

The odd thing is, they invariably vanish after a while and I never see them again.

I had the same experience with IE6. However, with IE7 they seem to live longer. How long I can't say because I have IE7 for about 12 days now.
