what kind of video do you want edit? (mpeg1,mpeg2,divx...?)

I totally agree with you guys. Avid is not for beginners.
Maybe Djblu, should consider Vegas Video or Premiere Elements.

Well, BBC radio is easy.  They are ( I believe) the largest single user of Cooledit/Audition anywhere.

Television is not so easy...they use a wide mix of different products.

First off, quite a lot of BBC production is now contracted out to independent production companies who use whatever they choose.  A lot of this is done on Avid, but this is by no means universal.

Withing the BBC itself, there are variations depending what department and region you're talking about.  Sports have invested heavily in a server based Quantel system.  In news, some of the simple editing is done by journalists themselves using the AP desktop system.  They also still do some cuts only stuff "machine to machine" on VTR and, last time I was out there I'm pretty sure I saw an Avid room or two for feature items.

Drama and main productions like that are a mix...often farmed out but in house they have Avid, Quantel, some large tape-based suites still and probably some one-offs I've missed.

well i got Sony Vegas, it's pretty cool, and im using Cool3D to make graphics and what not, i dont usualy do video but this is gettin fun. i Edit my Home Videos on it, it's pretty easy.

In the Philippines, TV shows specially the fictional ones use Avid for their editing.
