video?

this is a little off the topic of the forums, but what video editing software do some of you experts use, and what do you recomend for a beggiener.

I use Sony VEGAS.
I've only done a little video editing, but it was very easy with very good results in VEGAS.

No problemo on the language thing.  You've already proven that your English is far better than my Spanish.

Adobe Premiere is what pros use.
Also on the Mac platform you
can use FinalCut pro which only
works on Mac. It’s as good as
Premiere.

I am hearing of people ditching Avid Express because it's too cumbersome and unreliable to do long-form projects.  Anyone I ask around here likes Final Cut, except one pro who uses Premiere, as do I.  

So, for a beginner?  Premiere Elements.

I use Avid and Quantel at work...and Premier Pro at home.

However, I was in hospital recently and the guy in the bed next to mine was an enthusiastic (and frighteningly talented) producer of home videos.  He swore by the Magix editor.

I've not used it myself but when he had his wife haul his laptop in to show me, it looked very intuitive to use...and the results he was getting were very good indeed.

The price is also about a tenth what Premier Pro is.

Which only goes to confirm what we all know, it's not so much the equipment/software as the person using it.

Well, some broadcasting corporations still use Avid.
You can find out about Avid customers on its site.
Maybe it’s because they’re used to Avid and don’t

The "grown up" Avid solutions are probably more limited in what they try to do than Premier Pro, but have a couple of advantages.

First, Avid provides not just software but integrated hardware as well.  Premier Pro's ability to work on a wide range of hardware with lots of different video cards can be both an advantage...or a nightmare if it goes wrong.

Second, the User Interface for Avid, though far from intuitive, doesn't try to do so much as PP and is therefore easier to use under pressure.  I was introduced to Premier some years back by a chap who'd been editing for 30 years plus and who knew Quantel, Avid NLEs as well as most tape based edit systems...and he had needed a tutorial disk to get started on PP.

Third, and related, over here in the UK at least there's a huge pool of freelance Avid editors who can walk in and use a system without extra training or practice.  The same pool doesn't exist for PP.

Avid may be popular, but are you honestly recommending Avid as an introductory video editing program for a beginner - which is what the original question was about.

Avid is an expensive professional product and totally unsuitable for a beginner.  I posted suggesting a look at Magix for said beginner.

However, I DID post saying that, in the UK at least, Premier is not making many inroads into the broacast market.
