At least one bit of the Beeb likes these... but they may be a little outside your price range. I certainly wouldn't pay that much for a headphone amp, but hey, if I wanted another one, I'd build it myself.

Is the quality REALLY worth the money or is it another "Audiophool" device?

Surely the headphones themselves will make a far more dramatic difference to the overall sound...and they vary greatly in terms of input impendence, sensitivity and frequency response.  I'm not clear how any one box can claim to be better without reference to a specific set of headphones.

BFM, are you looking for a single channel headphone amp, or one with multiple outputs?

According to the website front page, it's the BBC (local radio) Oxford Newsroom that's bought some.

BBC Local Radio NewsHuh What do they want that sort of quality for?

Perhaps they are fed up with being told how bad it all sounds?

(I use a Sound Devices HX-3 headphone amp.  I suspect it cost me more than my Phonic firewire mixer.... )

Well you see, it's just that when I'm recording (voicing into an E-MU 1820), the vol could be louder, and it's already on top vol (on the E-MU when I record). I close-mic record and so the mic rec vol on the E-MU is only at 12 o'clock. All other volume on the PC is absolutley fine, just recording. It's so horrible having to admit I'm going deaf - must be all that compression.. Tongue

Yes, if you love the sound of your own voice that much, it's sure going to be a problem...  Tongue  afro Tongue

Swap your headphones for Koss Red Devils (KRD-711's) if you can find some, and use a small power amp...

I love my Beyer DT 770s too much to change them, although the pansy curly cord was a design fault, it's ripped to shreds and I wish I could find someone to put a serious curly cord lead on them .. (that's me, winding my finger around the cord when I listen to compressed radio).

Not so easy to put a different cable in, because of the design of the cable ingress. If you can get hold of a spare beyer cord though, I can fit them. Beyer's part number for it is 504289, and it's described as a 'coiling cord'.

This job is much easier with the Beyers intended for broadcast use, like my DT250s - the cables on those unplug on the side (with a screw to lock them in place) and are easy to replace - the work of seconds, and anybody can do it. Takes a bit longer with the captive cable ones like yours, because this requires disassembly and a bit of soldering, as well as physically refitting the cable.
