If I have a session that I want to save as the default session after I have recorded tracks on it, the default session starts with the next take from the previous session, rather than start the numbering over.

For example:  I have a session with a few guitar tracks recorded.  The last recorded one would say something like GuitarI_004.wav.

I want this session set to default for new recordings, so I erase the recorded takes from it and set it to be the default session.

Then the first track recorded in the default session would be GuitarI_005.wav, instead of, for example, GuitarI_001.wav.

I don't believe it is label specific, because if I changed the track name from GuitarI to something else, it still ends with an 005 suffix.

Is there a way to fix this, resetting the track take history to zero?

No there isn't. The ses file makes a record of every track that's ever been recorded in a session, and due to a 'peculiarity' in the way it's set up, this counter never gets reset or decremented. If you try adding to the demo session, you end up adding track 165, or something like that. Shows you just how many tracks were in that session originally!

So I guess Adobe didn't count on people saving templates for future projects?

(wow, i inadvertently made a pun  cheesy )

It would seem like common sense...

You can save a template - but I think that it would be quite an improvement to be able to save more than one, with customised track names, and select the one you want at the start of a session.

and starting the track count from the beginning, as it should for those trying to save a template.

It's only a minor inconvenience, sure, but I think anyone who saves a default session would want the track numbering to begin at the first take.
