Windows Vista is coming at the end of the year, and although not everyone will be making the switch straight away I thought it might be prudent to plan ahead and start asking whether there are any compatibilty/usability issues running Adobe Audition on Windows Vista. (Or will basically anything that runs on XP also run on Vista ..)

Soundcard drivers are definitely an issue at present, as Vista has a totally new (much improved) audio architecture.

In this months "Computer Music" they did a study with Vista and music programs. Audition didn't run at all on it so there'll have to be a 64-bit version. This will probably be a paid upgrade but will also include all the bug fixes so should be worth it cheesy
Also as Paul says, the drivers should become an issue. I visualise the guys pulling their hair out trying to meet the deadline

So - let me guess:  the update to AA 2.0 will only run on Vista when the update/upgrade is released. wink

I'm already sick at the thought of having to wait to get Vista just because Audition won't run on it... what's Adobe saying about Audition on Vista?

I'm already sick at the thought that, at some point in the future, I may have to change to Vista.  Microsoft's record on new OS releases is pretty bad and I wouldn't even consider it until around Service Pack 2 time....

Well, this new OS should've been out a year ago, and the really good news appears to be that Microsoft have learnt from their past mistake of rush-releasing products before they were ready, and they appear to have spent a lot of time readying this one.

Not a new lesson, actually - Windows NT 5 (released as Windows 2000) was several years late because there were changes they weren't prepared to rush.

I'm afraid that with operating systems, it's not a case of me waiting with bated breath to get the newest and latest.  Rather, it's a case of me requiring to be persuaded, kicking and screaming, that the new OS gives me something I NEED badly enough to junk a perfectly stable, working system.

Lately this need has been the desire to keep using CEP/Audition rather than anything in the OS itself.

lol...funny you should mention it...

I drive an "R" reg mercedes...only 75,000 miles on it so it has a long way to go!  My mobile phone is a five or six year old Nokia, most of my clothes are several years old, though I still have one shirt that's 30+ years old.

Oh...my hair.  It started falling out when I was about 16 and I now sport a "Jean Luc Picard" look.

...So it's not just my OS!
