Hi

I have a long audio file (1 hour) of a rock concert that I would like to burn onto CD just like a normal "live" concert CD. i.e. There would be no gaps between the songs but the individual songs would still be spilt into individual numbered tracks on the CD.

The Adobe Audition help file says:-

"If you want to divide a single, long audio file (such as a recording of a concert that includes several songs) into multiple tracks on a CD, insert the file into a session, and add track cues at the desired locations. Then, choose Edit > Mix Down To CD Project. The cue ranges are inserted automatically as separate tracks."

I have added the track cues, inserted the file into a session and done the Mix Down but I still always end up with one continuous file on the resulting CD with no numbered tracks!

Where are I going wrong?

I wish they hadn't put that note in the manual quite like that - it leaves out a load of important instructions.

When you create the cues in MV, you should use the CTRL+Shift+F8 key combination to do it - this inserts potential track points into the mix. What happens then when you try to export the file to CD view is that you get a box open up called 'CDList track usage', where you get to choose some options. It sounds to me like you would have the first option checked, and that's not what you want at all. You need the second one, called 'Add Multiple CD tracks Using Track Markers'. Then select 'Use Track Point Markers' and 'Each point pair becomes: a new track range marker', and 'Use Marker Label As Title For Each Track'.

Then select custom track properties, and check Pause. Set the value to 0, and check Create New CD list.

Now, there's a fairly good chance that it will take your individual track cues with names, and insert them with track titles, but still have it play as a continuous concert, allowing you to jump to the appropriate point in it if you want to. You can't avoid a 2 second pause at the start, because it's part of the Red Book standard, but you never notice it because the CD player always starts from the beginning of a track, not the pause!

Also, you might want to alter settings sliightly to take account of whatever you've done at the beginning and end of your concert, but I think that the options here are quite clear within the selection box - you should be able to sort this out with a little trial and error, I think.

WWW

There's a program out there called "CD Wave" that allows you to do it.  It allows you to set track IDs, and then it will cut the large WAV into smaller WAVs.  Then you use your favorite CD burning program, and burn disc-at-once.  That's how I do it for concert recordings.

Woooo!  Deja vu all over again...

Your question is eerily similar to mine some time ago, Read about it http://audiomastersforum.net/amforum/topic-3706.html&highlight=track+markers

The short answer is that track markers MUST be inserted in Multitrack view, NOT Edit view. They do not translate from one to the other. Mark your tracks in MT, set the space between tracks to 0, and you'll be fine.

It's also still possible to create audio CD's much as in the good old days of earlier versions of Audition / Cool Edit - http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.2ccd622a/0 provides some advice.

Something nobody else has mentioned which you might like to consider....
set your "display time format" to "Compact Disc 75 fps", and set "Snapping to Frames" before you place your track markers. This will ensure that your track markers sit precisely on frame boundaries.
If your track markers don't sit exactly on a frame boundary, you'll get small gaps at the track ID's (shorter than 1/75 sec, but discernable nonetheless).

First off Phil, you must be smoking the same crack that natthegreat is. The creation of track markers works irrespective either MT or Edit view. SteveG pointed out correctly that Ctrl+Shift+F8 will create said markers. You can then add the track markers to the cd list as though they were separate files (even though the original is not sliced up). From there you can set the pause between tracks to be zero. The one caveat is that you will always have a 2 second pause before the first track begins. This is a default buffer used to scan and build a playlist for the cd on standard settop players.
