Possibly because AA2 uses ASIO and the soundcard ASIO drivers don't support 32K? AA1.5 uses MME or WDM drivers.
Maybe the ubiquitous ASIO4All drivers would get round the problem.

thanks, i'll download the driver and try that. its a shame the error message is a fraction misleading or unclear about the cause of the problem.

Hi Stunt,
Most of the USB microphone units are not ASIO-compatible, which means you'll need to configure either Auditions ASIO wrapper to use the USB mic as the primary input, or if you are using a third party driver such aas ASIO4ALL, set that up to recognize the microphone as the default input device.
To set it up using Audition's driver, click EDIT then AUDIO HARDWARE SETUP. Make sure the "Audio Driver" is set to "Audition Windows Sound" and click the CONTROL PANEL button. The bottom half of the dialog should show all recognized DirectSound input devices, one of which will likely be your USB headset. Make certain this device is checked, and you may want to highlight it and click MOVE UP so that it is the default recording device. Click OK a few times to close out of there, start a new session, and it should record properly.
These USB microphones are kind of a pain in that they're so easy to setup as most use the built in Windows USB Sound drivers, but they're input only, or are shunted to second-tier in favor of the pre-existing on-board devices.
