In my search for a more elegant and flexible means of playing soundbites and FX live on air, I came across Stinger from BSI. It's on-screen palette scheme is what I'm looking for, along with the relative ease of finding/loading/changing many clips/FX quickly. Presently we're using AudioVault palettes for this, and if you've ever done so, you how limited it is.rolleyes

Before we spring for 3 copies of Stinger, wondering if anyone might have experience with other software that does this? Truth is that Stinger would be a huge improvement, but using the demo I can see some limitations. And frankly, at $200 it seems overpriced for what it does.

Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!

What would you be using it for, live radio? I think knowing your application of it would help. If is live radio or internet radio, then I would spend $800 or thereabouts and get a decent entry-level playout like Myriad.

try this site for cart players

http://www.the-radio-site.com/links/pages/Software/Players/

http://www.the-radio-site.com/links/pages/Software/Players/more2.html

caban/guinevere or sonicart might suit.

failing this try hunting down a copy of wavcart dualplay not wavecart they are different (this may be long gone - i think)

also this

I know that the palettes in Audiovault are somewhat limited, however, they sound exactly what you want to use them for. If you need help setting them up let me know and I can assist you. I know another automation software has a good palette is iMediaTouch from OMT, infact I tend to like it better than my AudioVAULT on some things. All software has its advantages and disadvantages. There is a demo version of iMediaTouch on their web site at http://www.imediatouch.com/. Hope thi helps.

Thanks for the responses and links guys. That freeware JazlerShow is a real possibility, has very similar functionality to Stinger. A little rough around the edges, but can't beat the price. I think I'll give it a try and see what the host and producer think of it.

iMediaTouch would be overkill for the simple task at hand. I'm just looking for a screen full of buttons that can be assigned to sound effects or bits (on-air contest bed, right answer SFX, wrong answer SFX, short news clips, production elements, etc) that can be clicked and played live during the show as needed. AudioVault palette does that, but its 8-character filename limit is a huge PITA when you have dozens and dozens of elements to keep track of. The long filenames and button color-coding of Stinger and JazlerShow are a big benefit, and they can also easily manage many more sounds at once.

Thanks again for the suggestions!

More freeware can be used as both cart wall (audio player) or radio live assist/ automation.

As far as I can make out, they dropped the freeware version last year.

Now, I have no idea how much it costs, but the one I've actually tried, and is known to integrate well with Audition is QuickFire. It's rock solid, and has an excellent pedigree.

I should add that we're running an old version of AudioVault, 7.6, so I don't know if the palette limitations of this version are the same as in the current version. Bottom line is I'm stuck with 7.6, hence looking for alternatives.

I'll have to check on version 9.0 (the latest version of the AV software, but the last version for AV-100 hardware was 8.42) and what it has in the way of the quickstart pallete. BTW, are you trying it in AVAIR or AVSAT? there were some limitations if it was in AVSAT, but a little more flexible in AVAIR (I think).

WWW

At my last station group, we used bsi software.  Stinger was fantastic.  The morning guy loved it.

I have played with sonicart, but it seems a bit limited.  Jazler looks interesting.

Audiovault.  If I can ever convince my owners here to upgrade and let me take this clunky old piece of &$*@ing s$&* we call an automation system out back and destroy it with a sledgehammer, Audiovault is what I want.

Hello All,

I have a similar SFX/Cart request. I've downloaded several of the tools listed here, but the specific thing that I'm looking for is that I want a piece of software that will loop an sound file continuously, and then when I push a button it will move on to the next sound file, but only after completing the playback of the first one. (i.e. it would break out of the loop and play the next bit.) It seems to me that all of these cart machines will play both sounds at the same time instead of waiting for the first to finish.

Here's why:

I've purchased some loopable music bits, so I want to play an introduction once through, and then do a voice over while looping the second wav file in the background, and then when the VO is done I want to hit a button to play the third wav file which would be the closing music of that sound.

Does this sound like the right approach or am I missing something here?

Thanks,
Brian

Other than looping audio you should I think somewehere under options/preferences etc  be able to specify just this.

I know its possible in wavcart dualplay - which sadly is no longer available. Here you can use a single or 2 soundcards specifying that each piece of audio should finish before the next plays.

With 2 soundcards you can stack up-to 10 pieces of audio (5 per player) and press the sequence you want them to play. What you cannot do (well we never got it work) is to stack audio in the 2 players, create a sequence and play in order using both players at once.

What would happen was if you changed between players during the sequence - 2 pieces of audio would play. We were told this was because we were using 2 seperate cards and not a single dual card.

Another option is jingle palette, this has the facilty to loop audio but again will play 2 pieces of audio at once.

Hope this helps. Toneranger33
