XP *and* SP2?

I can understand why new software is only going to work on the lates Windows OS, but with SP2 as well?  That's a bit much!  

Like a lot of other people, I installed SP2 and then immediateley de-installed it again because of all the problems it caused.  For those using a machine not connected to the 'net, SP2 didn't really do much for us anyway, so it was no big loss.

Now, AA2 says it *needs* SP2 or certain functions won't work.  The question is what functions?  

I'm going to try installing it anyway, but I really am a bit mifffed that Adobe are forcing me into this corner, I think it should be my decision as to whether or not I run SP2, not theirs.

"Some features will not work. The primary feature that will not function properly under SP1 is video support. The video engine requires SP2 and DirectX 9.0c."  That was the official response to someone who enquired.

Funny this SP2 thing.  Seems to cause some people problems and others (eg me) none (that I'm aware of).

SP2 never caused me a single problem.

SP2 has caused me no problems, and I run a whole bunch of machines. Most of the people I talk to have had no problems. However, I do know two people using specialised hardware who had to remove SP2.

In one case - the problem was a Psion Wavefinder - I really thought they should have ditched the hardware rather than keep swimming against the tide.

Graeme, I'm another who saw no changes at all when, with great skepticism, I put SP2 on.  Pray tell, what sorts of problems did you experience?  And if video isn't a big deal to you, try AA2 as is, that much is now clear.

There are several threads from around the time SP2 came out that indicate Graeme was not alone in rejecting SP2. I experienced several weird little peformance bugs after installing it, as well as a noticable slowdown of my entire system.

I ditched it immediately and have been happy ever since.

Well, I've installed the tryout version of AA2 on my non-SP2 machine and all seems to work.  I have no interest or use for video, so maybe I won't have to worry about it.
