It has been commented both here and on the Adobe forum that the mixdown system appears to be flawed, because you can't create an unsaved mixdown and view it in Edit View. Well you can - but you have to do it a slightly different way.

You have to remember that AA2.0 now has a master track, and this in fact gives you the option you need. What you do is to highlight the time selection that you require from your mix, and right-click on the master track. Then you will get an option to bounce the mix you've got to to a new track. If you do this, and then click on the mixed track, you will get an unsaved mixdown in Edit View. You can then save whatever you want from this.

Yes, but this is a poor workaround compared to the old way.

In 1.5, I could hit one hotkey and straight away I'm looking at a mixdown in EV - without it being inserted into MV, which then has to be deleted.

They've turned a one step process for me into a three step process. shocked

I agree that it would be better to have a direct option to bounce the master to an unsaved track in Edit View - but that will have to wait for an Adobe service pack - if they actually decide to implement this.

I haven't upgraded yet, but I have to say that would drive me absolutely bonkers.

Absolutely! I mix down about 30-40 commercials a day, it's really going to waste my time. They need to fix it now smiley

In fairness, it doesn't have to be deleted - it simply doesn't have to be saved when you close the session. And since you have to do the mixdown anyway, all that's really been added is a couple of mouse-clicks to open it in EV. Whilst it's not ideal, I don't think that it's such a great disaster.

You might also like to consider Ozpeter's potential workaround here.

Well, that's what you've just got... (okay, slightly more than you wanted, perhaps!)

I guess it's isn't clear to me why having the mixdown file saved is such a sin, and how that can possible take more time than mixing to a temp file.  Haven't tried it myself, and won't for a while, but the other two applications I use both mixdown to files and I never gave it a second thought.

Because.. if I export/mixdown a commercial straight to mp3 and get it to automatically open the resulting file to "master" it and then resave.. I add another generation of compression - and that makes me cry. cry

I had a mixdown hotkey - shift+m - that was so simple. oh the good ol' days... meh I'm over it!

I see - different workflow.  I understand your disappointment.

My mixdown hotkey (Cntl+Alt+M) from AA1.5 transferred just fine.  Sure, an uncompressed file gets saved... but when I use the hotkey, the export settings dialog appears just as I'd left it last time.  So if I'm dropping waves in the same folder all day, and exporting the master track all day, there is precisely one wasted step - the save to wave.  So make a folder labelled "delete contents" and enjoy the hotkey!

I think I might miss the simplicity of the old mixdown dialog too, but looking at the flexibility of the Export dialog corrects a whole bunch of other problems I used to need workarounds for, particularly when doing surround mixing.  With new power comes a slight increase in complexity.
