AA should support at least being able to read MP4 and AAC audio files as these are becoming more prevalent.  There is some discussion about this in the thread http://audiomastersforum.net/amforum/viewtopic.php?t=3690.

AAC Plugin for Adobe Audition 2005-05-18
This CoolEdit Pro/Adobe Audition plugin does importing and exporting of AAC/MP4 streams, using FAAC 1.24.1 and FAAD2 2.0. Unzip the files to CoolEdit/Audition's folder.

AAC Plugin for Adobe Audition 2005-05-18

Thanks for that, but I probably should have mentioned that third-party plugins such as this have already been mentioned in the thread I linked to above.  I had already downloaded it and tried the importing and it works fine.  The wish list request is for Adobe to ship AA with such a plugin included so that users don't have to hunt around for them.

Does faac.flt work in AA 2?

I put it and the DLL file into AA2's root folder but don't see any AAC/M4A formats available in Open or Save.

I don't recall it working.  I think it needs to be recompiled with the new Audition SDK, and I don't know of that being done yet (it's not an open source filter AFAIAA, so the original author would have to do this).  Also, I tried to create an MP4 audio file by exporting via that filter, and the resulting file wasn't readable in other MP4-aware players.

So, I tend to do my format conversions in Foobar2000 these days, then just load wav files into Audition.  I still believe an AAC/MP4 filter should bundled with AA.

Actually, (unless I'm missing something here) I think the codec sources for FAAC 1.24 and FAAD2 2.0 are available at http://www.audiocoding.com/modules/mydownloads/. [/url]

Hi!  Dr. Broken Record here, just to remind you that without the availability of "High Complexity" aac encoding, you might as well be using wma or ogg or something else.  The edge is lost.

So to be perfectly clear, the feature request: an extra buck for a licensed aac codec for AA2 would be well worth it if it supports both in & out with that wonderful high complexity mode, as well as the lower life forms possible within the aac format.
