We don't encourage replies to general questions by email - because nobody else gets the benefit this way. After all, that is what a forum is for!
If I just wanted a 'powerful' voice I wouldn't bother with all those plugins at all - you can put all the power it's possible to put into a voice using either the correct settings in AA's Dynamics Processor, or possibly the Hard Limiter (which essentially does the same thing, but is easier to set up). But there are going to be snags to doing this, whatever you do - because you will also bring up the bacground level, which you will have to remove as well.
But can you be a bit more descriptive about exactly what type of voice you are trying to achieve?

Steve's right about AA's ability to accomplish your task. That said, the Wave's pack is outstanding!!

The power voice that you and others describe is acheived by compression. The power voice is the voice you hear on young people's radio .. Top 40 radio, contemporary hit radio etc. This power voice is even acheived by 19 year-old kids on the radio these days, it's all compression baby

Most VO pros use some sort of voice processing. A lot of those who have been doing this for years are primarily hardware based. Some of the younger talents have found that software will do the trick for less money. You COULD use the functions of AA to recreate most of what you can accomplish with the Waves plug ins. However, to simulate the C4, you have to use the band splitter and take several steps to get to the final product. The C4 is considerably faster and easier than strictly using AA. As for the ultramaximizer, it is my opinion that it sounds considerably better than AA's hard limiter.

Yes, it's quite true about
anything
multi-band - this takes longer to achieve in AA, even though there's a way of achieving a remarkably fat sound by using parallel dynamics real-time processing in MV in a fast machine - something that a lot of people haven't considered. And I'd agree about the Hard Limiter - it's a blunt instrument. I never use it.

I prefer Ozone for my VO work because of its speed and convenience. I'm able to get new sounds out of it with only a small amount of effort. It's true, I certainly COULD get great sounds using only AA, but I find it much easier to get the sound I want using Ozone.
Steve, a bit OT: Could you explain (just a short explaination) why the Ultramaximzer sounds so much better than the hard limiter? Aren't they essentially the same thing?

I'm not absolutely sure, but I
think
that the Ultramaximiser has a softer 'knee' than the Hard Limiter - which effectively has a
very
abrupt knee. If you consider it from the point of view of graph in the dynamics processor, the Ultramaximiser goes around a gentle curve to turn right at the top, and the Hard Limiter turns immediately at the threshold point. The end slope is the same, but the way it gets to it isn't. This gives the Hard Limiter a very 'edgy' sound that I don't like much. I should imagine that the attack and decay constants are probably different as well.

steve is right - the ultra maximiser is much much nicer sounding than the hard limiter, i never use that anymore. I visualise it as a big rusty old blunt butchers knife! it mutilates the sound of things. The ultra maximiser is far more gentle, and can push up the db and make a very "fat" sound whilst going relatively undetected - in comparison to a hard limiter atleast
