FWIW I prefer the binary format to xml but thats just me  evil
Can't say I find either SES or XML that good a read, ok SES is a bad read.

One nice aspect about SES in AA3 is that  the Show File Info "Component Files" has some info which XML does not.

Let's hope the new xml based format is better in this respect.
