I'm somewhat new to the midi scene. For my live setup I run a normal midi keyboard to control a standalone collection of virtual instruments, but I am trying to reduce the dependency on my computer for live situations. I understand there are a number of pad's out there now that allow you to program samples into individual velocity-sensitive percussion pads. My question is... are there any midi keyboard controllers that allow specific vst instruments to be loaded into some sort of memory bank, so you don't need software running? Or has someone figured out a more reliable way of doing this live?

I only use the software for 3 instruments, but they are of quality which I cannot find in synthesizers of a decent price. Any suggestions for a solution?
