Ths has been posted on behalf of new member RNeff, who is having a little problem posting

I have been using CoolEdit2000 for about 10 years now.  I learned just about everything I (apparently) understand about this software from the old Syntrillium forum and Steve Fazio in particular.  Alas!  THe one thing I have NOT learned is the proper use of the noise reduction feature od CE2k.  I understand that obtaining a noise sample that is free of (desired) audio content is the most important part of of creating a noise "profile" that will be applied to a given waveform.  The part that I have yet to learn is how to "properly" use this sample to reduce the noise.  Specifically, I have learned that if the "average" noise level is at some level, say -49dB (relative to full scale), that noise level should best be the level at which the sample should be obtained and the level of the wavefrom should not be changed.  To restate this, if the average voltage level at which the noise sample was obtained differs with the average noise level of the wavefore on which the noise reduction algorithym is applied, either too much (or too little) of the noise waveform will be "subtracted" from the audio contend of the subject waveform.  Now my question is, of the various parameters that can be set when obtaining (and applying) a noise sample, I do not understand the proper setting (if there is such a thing) of the various parameters. (I'll have to continue later.)
